David Fizdale, David Blatt, Mark Jackson, Jerry Stackhouse On Knicks' List

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Apr 12, 2018 12:56 pm

With the New York Knicks firing Jeff Hornacek, potential candidates to replace him as head coach are beginning to emerge.

David Fizdale, David Blatt, Mark Jackson and Jerry Stackhouse are considered top candidates for the job.

The Knicks are determined to remain on a course of player development building around Kristaps Porzingis.

Fizdale was fired by the Grizzlies early this season after a strong opening campaign in 16-17. Blatt is currently coaching in Turkey.

Jackson was fired by the Warriors in 2014 and he has since been working in broadcasting.

Stackhouse is currently head coach of the Raptors' affiliate in the G League.

I really don't feel like any of these coaches listed are very good options. In my opinion, the choice should depend on how the Knicks want to approach their future. If NY feels like they can be a playoff team with one or two more years of rebuilding, Fizdale (MAYBE Jackson) should be the choice. If NY is smart, they will realize they are still a few years away from contention and hire a coach with a good developmental background (Blatt I think would fit). I heard someone on the radio this morning throwing around the idea of trying to pry Jay Wright away from Villanova, but that's a pipe dream. Van Gundy, as hyped as he is, I think A. isn't coming back and B. wouldn't be a good fit anyway.

I like Stackhouse with what he's done as head coach in the g-league and NBA assistant. I just hate to see him get fired after 1 or 2 seasons.

They will find a lame duck coach until they build back up. Then If...IF they finally have a squad, they will fire whoever's hired this coming season, and go with who's hot. NY doesn't have a lot to work with, and Noah's contract is a bother.

Knicks plan to repalce Hornacek with one of them?
All look like bad candidate
Fizdale should remain as assistant
Stackhouse, I don't even know what team he is on now
Jackson, stay in ESPN
Blatt, don't know how he do without LeBron, but he was Kerr top assistant choice

Fizdale and Stack are the only names I would consider on that list, personally.

Leaving Villanova for the Knicks would be like leaving a supermodel for a literal pig

I think Blatt may be a good choice for them.

I wrote this in another thread:

"If Steve Mills and Scott Perry suddenly hire Oakley what's gonna happen?"

Quick fact. The last 9 Knicks head coaches were all ex-NBA players. Everyone since JVG.

That probably rules out Fizdale or any fresh face or under the radar unknown as Dolan likes his big names. Mark Jackson just needs a one on one to sell himself.

the nostalgia of JVG keeps him on the lists. he's two generations of coaching evolution removed from the league. he cant keep up w the current crop of coaches.
he knows it.
he's the NBA's ringless version of Jon Gruden
