Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Apr 26, 2018 3:30 pm

The New York Knicks have received permission from the Boston Celtics to interview Jay Larranaga.

Larranaga met with the Knicks last week.

Larranaga, 43, is a rising young coach, who has been with the Celtics for six seasons, the last four as Stevens’ top assistant.

Larranaga is known for his player development.

Same never heard of him. But I’m sure we haven’t heard too much about a lot of assistants. Is he the lead assistant in BOS? Either way a good choice to interview compared to recycled coaches. Especially if NY is in rebuild/retool mode.

Yes... he is now the top assistant. I like the Stack interview. Borrego I know nothing about. Bud is a great look. This is another I know nothing about. The rest on the list...meh.

Stack was a good candidate for them to interview. Borrego was the interim coach in ORL for a little while and he was horrible (quite sure it was ORL). Doesn’t mean he hasn’t improved or the roster he had was able to produce. Bud is Bud but I think NY should find a young coach instead of a vet. I think it would be better suited for there roster and goals moving forward.

He's currently the top assistant for our team. I'll be sad when he's gone, but I like our other assistants more tbh.

Any idea how he'd do as a HC?

He is the only guy that would win a staring contest against Bobby Portis.

Too bad. Guy is a genius and clearly incredible at player development. Would hate for us to lose anyone.

He's very good at player development. I don't know how he'd do with his Xs and Os, player management, motivation, etc though.

He has a chance next season if Hayward, Kyrie and Bogut's wife come back healthy.

He's good. He was a college coach before, and was brought into the Celtics under Doc.
A lot of it is culture, such as his knack for pushing "winning habits" onto players. However, he does get some attention in end-of-game situations, so he knows how to get a team to advance the ball and execute under duress. I think he'll make a great HC, and I hope we don't lose him yet.
