Gobert, Davis, Oladipo, Holiday, Covington On 2018 NBA All-Defensive Team

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 23, 2018 6:12 pm

Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz and Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans lead the 2017-18 NBA All-Defensive First Team.

Gobert was voted to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for the second year in a row, as selected by a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters.  The 7-1 center from France earned 192 points, including 94 First Team votes.  Davis, a two-time NBA All-Defensive Second Team selection, makes his debut on the First Team.  The 6-11 forward/center received the second-most points (163) and First Team votes (73), behind Gobert.

The two big men are joined on the NBA All-Defensive First Team by Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo (136 points), Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday (105) and Philadelphia 76ers forward Robert Covington (90).  All three players are All-Defensive selections for the first time.

The NBA All-Defensive Second Team consists of 76ers center Joel Embiid (90 points), Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green (86), Boston Celtics forward/center Al Horford (85), San Antonio Spurs guard Dejounte Murray (80) and Minnesota Timberwolves guard/forward Jimmy Butler (79).  Like the First Team, the Second Team has three first-time All-Defensive selections: Embiid, Horford and Murray.

no one played Defense yr...shadow guard and run back to shoot a three.

aside from Rudy and AD, these selects are pretty ridiculous.
where's JBrown BOS?

Most likely but this made me think about the times where a player won DPOY but didn't make the All-Defensive first team.

Plus defender but not in the conversation. He's like the fourth-best defender on his own team.

Wow, Dipo for PG trade looking even better for the Pacers.

Covington the epitome of 3&D, too bad Simmons can't shoot.

He's actually the best perimeter defender on the team, although he's not a big so Horford's defensive impact is greater.

Smart is after Jaylen but he can't cover quickness like Jaylen can. (yet he's much stronger so you can coinflip between which aspect of defense you like more between Brown and Smart).

Is there a min. game cutoff?

Gobert got in, but not Roberson. Roberson played about 40, gobert played 55.

Pretty sure gobert had a lot of games with limits on minutes, don't think Roberson did

How do they choose position for defensive team?

Is Anthony Davis a power forward? Or a center?

So he’s first team defense for power forward? And will be first team all nba center??

And if Demarcus cousins weren’t injured. Anthony Davis would be first team all nba power forward?

The reason I’m asking is it would be unfair to the true centers of the 1980s and 1990s. Most of them were great two way. But only one could be all nba for defense center and all nba for center.

Right. Tell BronInc. He runs a 1-3 pick and roll to have Brown switched off him the entire game.

just plain disrespect to Marcus Smart.
Jesus what a joke.

Marcus Smart should be first team All NBA defense.
Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't watch enough NBA.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.
