Dwane Casey Emerges As Pistons' Top Coaching Target

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu May 24, 2018 1:49 pm

The Detroit Pistons' top target in their head coaching search is Dwane Casey.

The Toronto Raptors parted ways with Casey this offseason despite finishing with the second best record in the NBA.

Ed Stefanski plans to engage Casey immediately in their coaching search. Stefanski was part of the Raptors' front office when Casey was hired by the team in 2011.

The Pistons are searching for a replacement for Stan Van Gundy.

This would be a good hire. He's probably the best coach available.

With Andre shooting 3s this summer, Pistons could be in for some good fortune next season.

Well he would continue the trend of Pistons always losing to the Cavs.

I wonder if he will sit Drummond every 4th quarter like he did JV.

depending on the game, why wouldnt you? #realtalk

drummond is a 60% FT shooter.. and that's only this past season.. prior to that, he was 38% shooter, if he was being hack-a-shaq, you'd really leave him on the floor?

Last season? Yeah. He's obviously still a bad shooter, but he wasn't horrible anymore. Teams tried it a couple times and he generally didn't choke.

Not bad, he has to hope the players are healthy.

I think Casey and Drummond could be a good fit in theory. His issues with JV was his defense. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Drummond has the potential/physical make-up to be a good rim protector/defender in space. Tyson Chandler was the anchor that Casey's defensive system relied on in Dallas. I hope it's a good fit for both coach and team.

Yes he'd be a great leader for the Pistons, he's coached two all star guards for a long time and it's Detroits backcourt which needs the focus of improvement for them to make the next step, they're set up front with Blake Griffin and Drummond.
