NBA To Move Start Of Free Agency To Earlier In Day

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jul 11, 2018 3:51 am

Adam Silver announced free agency will be moved from its typical midnight Eastern start on July 1st.

Silver said free agency will be shifted to earlier in the day beginning in 2019.

“I not only heard from my friends in the media, but as I get older, I think we are all tired of all-nighters,” Silver said with a smile. “I also heard from several teams, ‘Does this really have to be at midnight?’ I think that’s something we need to find agreement on with the Players Association, but I think we can change it for next year.”

ESPN had live coverage leading up to the start of free agency but the late start time makes it difficult to draw ratings.

The 2019 free agency class will include Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson and others.

Great news, the Lakers need to be calling these guys early, instead of waking them up...

Another anti Laker rule. Complaints of staying up at midnight to contact Bron. While Magic had a 9pm dinner and a meeting.

Like the deals aren’t done prior to free agency anyway. Who cares?

Why don't they allow teams to sign free agents like a week before the draft?

Let teams make free agency decision, before they get to draft players.

Chance to play with Lebron? Did this offseason and all of last season not show you anything? Anyone with a choice, even his friends, have absolutely no interest in playing with him. Looks like it will have to be another Kyrie situation where the other star has no choice because no one wants to do it voluntarily.

Makes sense, don't think the midnight thing is good for guys like the Logo and Pat

This.

Well, it's 9:00 pm on the West Coast... so 8:00 am EST would be 5:00 PST of the following day. :D

That's no longer a "perk."

Quite a few players it seems don't enjoy playing with him anymore as he throws fits both on & off the court when things don't go right. They see for themselves, much like the fans and the media do, when he puts down the JRs, Love's and Kyrie's.

He's not being literal, but rather than waking up in the middle of the night, or staying up until then, they could have it start mid day June 30th or mid day July 1st. Which, for working families, is a HUGE change. Even for the Players, Staff, and their families.

I mean how many of you guys IRL would want to work until like 1-3 AM?!
