Karl-Anthony Towns, Wolves In Early Discussions On Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jul 12, 2018 3:27 am

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Karl-Anthony Towns are in the early stages of discussions on a max contract extension.

There is optimism throughout the organization that the two sides will eventually reach agreement.

Towns recently returned to the United States after a vacation in Italy and there's hope talks will advance more quickly.

Towns wasn’t ready to address the situation in an interview with The Athletic from Italy last week.

Towns could agree upon a five-year, $158 million extension that increases to $190 million if he makes an All-NBA team again next season.

Jimmy Butler could become a free agent next summer and would be eligible to sign a five-year, $180 million contract with the Wolves.

Butler was the reason they were in the playoffs and if healthy they would been the 4 seed that said your right got to move him..

Tough situation with the "Butler is fed-up with the nonchalant KAT problem".

A very very expensive problem, with Wiggins already very very expensive.

I always said this would blow up.

it will be interesting to see how philly handle Simmons, Embiid and Fultz going forward, especially if they add another max level superstar like Kawhi.

the difference is that if you're developing a mid to late first rounder, you usually get their extension fairly cheaply too. guys picked in the top 3 or 4 spots demand max contracts as soon as they're eligible.

Wolves would much prefer the cap space.

We are far from having to move Butler. At least let them play together this season until the trade deadline and see how it goes. I think it will go very well.

It is my understanding that if money is the issue the Wolves can pay Butler more than any other team.

A Max contract for a guy who has no desire to play defense?

That's why the Minnesota Timberwolves are the Minnesota Timberwolves

I guaranty you about 20 or more teams would be lining up to pay KAT the max if given the opportunity.

if kawhi goes there it will be this offseason or next, so they can use bird rights to max out simmons. that would only create an interesting situation if fultz amounts to something special

he's generally considered the 3rd best center in the league, for what that's worth
