Nets Have Yet To Discuss Extension With D'Angelo Russell

D'Angelo Russell and the Brooklyn Nets have yet to open discussions on a contract extension.
Russell is owed $7.02 million this upcoming season and is eligible for a $9.16 million qualifying offer and restricted free agency next summer if he doesn’t agree to a rookie scale extension.
The Nets are prioritizing cap space for the summer of 2019 when they'll potentially have cap space to sign two max contract players.
Russell was acquired by the Nets from the Los Angeles Lakers a year ago.

While I'm a big fan of D'Angelo, Nets are better off letting him sign a qualifying offer as opposed to offering an extension unless it is an extremely team friendly extension (i.e. Steph Curry's first extension). Injury history and maturity questions keep him back. However, if he can prove it this year and next, then he will get paid. As wacky as it sounds, I'd love to see him in Phoenix with his buddy Booker. There would be 0 defense attempted, but that would be a fun team from an offensive standpoint.

lol. all these teams clearing cap space to sign max free agents next summer, I think we are going to see a repeat of the Deng, Mozgov, Evan Turner, Tyler Johnson summer. Lots of guys gonna get overpaid.

I've thought about the Nets sending him to PHX as well for the exact same reasons. Do you think management would consider a deal? Although now that Booker is inked, I doubt PHX will feel pressured to do anything to appease him.

Dont know what they are doing down there....i dont see a reason why any top free agent will come here. If Russell doesnt show explosiveness and defensive just him walk. Summer league is proving how little they have in Jarrett Allen too....he's a wasted pick.

Either that, or if max FAs would sign, can renounce him (like Randle), or maybe sign an "extremely team friendly" team during RFA.

When the "Butler being fed up with nonchalant KAT" came out, I proposed a Butler for DLo, Wiggins for Booker. Those three are buddies. D/O would still apply.

Actually he's above summer league now, it's just for a bit of exercise, he's not breaking a sweat there.
But he still averaged 10.5/11.5/3 in 25 mins, what do you expect?

Sheesh. BK got fleeced again. Loading will be gone and Lakers got Kuzma and cap relief that landed them LeBron.

Butler has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more trade value that D'angelo
And Wiggins has more trade value than Booker - Booker has been more productive but Wiggins is a 2 way player with much more untapped talent. If Minnesota tried to shop him they would get significant offers if he was in the east he might have made two allstar teams by now.

I expect not to be reminded of Javale Mcghee every time he plays by miss dunks and missed layups.

NOBODY who watches bball thinks Wiggins is a 2 way player

and no Wiggins does not have more value than Booker, they're both terrible defenders but Booker scores at a more efficient lvl thanks to his high lvl 3pt shot, unlike Wiggins

Just cuz they drafted Kuzma does not mean it was a good trade. Either way I’m just saying that was good drafting, that was not necessarily a good trade. If they drafted a player who appears to be a bust then it would be the same trade just bad drafting.

It's just summer league. He wasn't playing serious. Kid is good.
