Jabari Parker Signs Two-Year, $40M Deal With Bulls

Jabari Parker has signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Chicago Bulls.

The second year of the deal is a team option, league sources say, which lowers the risk on Chicago based upon Parker's two ACL injuries and gives both sides flexibility to turn a short-term relationship into a long-term deal should Parker stay healthy and productive next season.

The Milwaukee Bucks weren't going to match an offer sheet to Parker, so they rescinded their qualifying offer to allow him to sign a shorter deal. Mark Bartelstein brokered the deal with the Bucks making a good-faith gesture.

"We really love Jabari and wanted to work with him on this, because we weren't going to match an offer sheet," Jon Horst said.

OK, that's why they dumped JGrant.

Bucks should have done a S&T when they still had the capspace, well played by the Bulls.

Couldn't they have renounced him and signed a 1+TO for themselves?

The Bulls are suddenly playoffs contender in the Least if Jabari can stay healthy.

Dunn/LaVine/Parker/Markkanen/Portis

Lots of potential there.

Outstanding deal for the Bulls. If it doesn't work out, Bulls can work away. If it does, the Bulls will have Bird rights. Great gamble on a potentially high-ceiling player (if healthy).

Wendell Carter is their starting center, not Portis.

Bulls don't have Bird rights.

Oops, unaware that he's having a great summer league. Well, even more potential there, even bigger chance of making the playoffs.

At least for the first part of the season it will probably be Lopez, with Carter coming off the bench and Portis playing back up 4, behind Lauri.

So Milwaukee Bucks fans had to watch some eye wrenching basketball in 2013-14 so they could draft a player that never played one full season? That hurts. But unless they have some trade in the works, seems like terrible management letting someone still with potential walk like this. Milwuakee has paid worst plays, heck they have a 40 year old terry on the roster still.

Young guy's got potential, IT is a liability defensively and a risk in attitude, he's gotta show he's healed.

Great deal for the Bulls. Bucks should have locked him up sooner.

That's so far from the truth....

The Bulls have one of the most talented rosters in the East. It all starts with Markkanen. Most people have no idea how good he is going to be. The kid is a superstar in the making. Zach LaVine is an allstar caliber player when healthy, as is Jabari Parker. Kris Dunn is underrated. He's an outstanding defender, good passer, and excellent at attacking the basket. Wendell Carter is looking like a stud. Bobby Portis is coming off a breakout year and should be a top 6th man candidate. Don't sleep on the Bulls this year.

zach lavine and jabari parker are all-star caliber players? are you serious? if so, are you familiar with the concept of defense? zach lavine/jabari parker may well be the worst defensive wing combo ever

Yes, defense has almost zero impact on making the all star team. Sad but true. It didn't stop Dirk from being a perennial allstar. It didn't stop Melo. It didn't stop Steve Nash. It didn't stop Damian Lillard. It didn't stop Isaiah Thomas (the statistically worst defender in the entire league). The list goes on. James Harden won MVP... and don't tell me about his "improve defense" because I have eyeballs.

you do realize that you just cited a bunch of elite offensive players, right?

anyway, it's irrelevant to the discussion, as you said that the bulls could be good because of their "allstar caliber players." but if it's the kind of all star player that is good offensively and horrible defensively it doesn't help the team much

Jabari and LaVine have the potential to be elite offensive players if they can stay healthy.

And the two best teams in the league last year were built around poor defenders - Harden and Curry (who was consistently exposed in isolation against Houston, to the point that it almost lost them the series). Kyrie Irving also was recently featured on a championship team and he's one of the worst defenders in the league.
