Kevin Durant: One-Plus-One Was Perfect To Keep Things Open For Me

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 27, 2018 2:05 pm

Kevin Durant signed a two-year, $61.5 million max contract with the Golden State Warriors this offseason and can become a free agent again in 2019.

The decision leaves his financial and team options open.

“I just want to take it a day at a time, and I don’t want to look at my future now,” Durant told Yahoo Sports. “The [one-plus-one] was the perfect thing for me to do, to keep things open for me — financially and what I want to do. It’s just one of those things.”

Durant joined the Warriors in 2016.

Durant has just taken Lebron's formula and shown him how to do it right.

Ya, as long as not injury-prone it's good.

He was hanging out with Lebron so he's going to be a Laker next year and Kawhi will stay with Toronto. 8-)

Making it look good. He's not going anywhere until that dynasty is over. Why would he? We know he cant carry his own team, so unless he hooks up with another few stars, he will fade.

Yeah, so this snake can jump to whichever team's who is on the rise after the Warriors starts to decline.

Why? They're great for superstars because it doesn't allow the organization to be cheap or complacent. If the Warriors want to keep Durant they have to be making efforts to improve every single year. If they start heading in a direction that he doesn't like he can just leave for a better opportunity. That's how it should be for every company. You should always strive to create the greatest work environment to retain the best employees. Because if you can't do that, you're holding them back.

Whichever team beats them, the option of bandwagoning could be open with 1+1.

He doesn't have to be tied down to this particular bandwagon, he could jump onto the new rising one if he wants to, it's good for him.

Copycat, utilizing a good means for a bad end.

The Lakers are going to steal KD and Klay from the Warriors next seasons.
The Lakers will go back to being the absolute most hated franchise.

The Celtics will eventually add a superstar (someone like Anthony Davis).
They will generally be well received.

The Lakers/ Celtics rivalry will be renewed.

The real reason they do one + ones is to secure a 30 million + dollar paycheck when they're 38. And don't let anyone tell you any different. They one plus in their primes til they sign a Max long term deal that puts them toward retirement. Then they get one year of ring chasing to retirement.

1+1 is actually great for the Warriors too. We are not talking about a clueless organization that merely relying on one key piece to thrive in the GLeague Plus aka the East.

Warriors has a great ownership with deep pocket, great coaching staff, great team culture, and the right core pieces in place. Not to mention we are moving to the brand new stadium in SF where it will be the destination for any available superstars. I don't see KD leaving at all. His 1+1 will give the team flexibility when it's time to sign new free agents and keep its own core. KD will also get more with his new contract with raising cap. Win-win situation.

Yes KD and Klay will go rescue the Lakers which would likely not even getting out of the 2nd round in the West, so they can play with McGee again. I would totally mortgage my farm on that.

What’s wrong with that? It’s called looking out for yourself and holding ownership accountable. If you’re good enough, you get to call the shots. It’s like that in any business.

He's signing with the Raptors after we beat the Warriors in the finals this year.

Uhhh no, it's not about the money. KD took a big pay cut the last 2 years.

He is not leaving the Warriors if they still keep winning titles they would have to lose like the Heat in 2014 for him to leave like Lebron from a moral standpoint. I also doubt he leaves if they lose before moving to the new San Francisco arena - Durant was at the groundbreaking ceremony and will have his clown moment like Lebron's not one, not two.........not seven if he departs before christening that arena with at least one season of play. His Player Tribune piece announcing his free agency was much more authentic than Lebron's Decision TV fiasco and SI article (disrespecting Wiggins) so I see him acting with similar class if he ever leaves the Warriors.

Lol. When he joins another big team next year or forms another super team in NYC let’s hear what You narrative you create in 2019. You talk about LeBron more than anyone else and you are suppose to hate him. Talk about something else it might be healthy for you
