It is not uncommon that the sons of legends aren't as gifted as their fathers mostly because the sons get most of their genes from their unathletic mothers.

Actually I am amazed at how many 2nd generation players are good enough to play in the NBA. You'd think it would always be what you're describing, but I guess having the proper resources/training can overcome it. Or, in the case of Klay and Steph, have really good athletes for moms.

I know his daddy is a HOF player for the Jazz, but it is very clear this guy is not an NBA talent. His college stats were subpar, he has no size or athletic ability and he has never impressed in four separate Summer League appearances. If he ever hears people use the word nepotism he knows they are 100% talking about him. Time to move on and let him play his career in Europe. No reason to give him the impression he can make the league someday and the favour to his daddy has been given tenfold.

I think it’s just chance genetics.

On one hand say u have Andrew Wiggins who’s parents were world class athetles. (Mom and dad)

But than u have guys like kobe Bryant and Ben Simmons who had dads who’s were professional basketball players but moms who weren’t exactly considered athetles and Kobe and Ben turned out to be outstanding physical athletic specimens.

But John Stockton overall wasn’t a great “athlete “. He was a great basketball player but not the quickest or highest jumper. So his son didn’t have the greatest gene pool to began with. He NEEDED his mother to be a great athlete. And I’m not sure his mom is an athlete
