Jimmy Butler Prefers Clippers For Trade, Downplays Fractured Relationship With Towns

Jimmy Butler is most interested in a trade to the Los Angeles Clippers, according to sources.

Butler likes the Clippers' odds of signing a second superstar during the 2019 offseason as they have two max contract slots. Sources say the Clippers are emerging as the frontrunner to sign Kawhi Leonard.

Butler informed Tom Thibodeau he would prefer a trade and plans to leave in free agency. Butler has also prioritized the New York Knicks over the Brooklyn Nets.

Butler is downplaying his fractured relationship with Towns as a reason for wanting a trade, league sources said.

I'm not a Butler apologist by any means, but his thinking isn't wrong here. Towns and Wiggins won't commit to playing both sides of the court. They're happy to Jack shots and coast on defense, smiling, joking, and collecting those max cheques, all while losing. Jimmy ain't about joking around while losing. Towns is not Anthony Davis. You ain't winning a thing with him and Wiggins maxed out. Jimmy knows that and cares, Towns and Wiggins dont care as long as those cheques clear.

He knows he wasn't going to resign, so as a professional courtesy he let his long time coach know so they wouldn't be stuck with nothing.

Both NY teams best avoid this drama. Neither is on the road for the playoffs this year and adding Jimmy Butler just pushes them to a possible 8th seed. Save your first round picks for another day. Also, there's no guarantee he signs with you.

To say he doesn't play hard is insane. Minnesota will underachieve yet again when he is gone. He's giving them a heads up. Yes he's thinking about himself but don't you think the wolves would rather know before the trade deadline that he won't re-sign? That's professional courtesy. Of course he has preferences. But don't act like he's faking an injury and pulling a kawhi for a year.
