The Phoenix Suns have applied for a disabled player exception for Darrell Arthur.


Arthur was acquired by the Suns from the Brooklyn Nets.

Is this so the Suns can trade the the exemption for a team trying to lower luxury tax bill?

ie. 2019 2nd/2021 2nd + $5.5 million trade exemption for Jason Smith and 2019 1st?

When they traded for Arthur, he was known to have been injured and unlikely to play. They certainly intended to buy him out and disabled player exception just works better for them. Trading for Arthur was a salary-dump of Jared. How they use cap space? We'll see.
