Jimmy Butler: I Just Want To Hoop And Be Out There With My Soliders

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Oct 18, 2018 12:30 am

Jimmy Butler was in the starting lineup for the Minnesota Timberwolves in their regular season opener against the San Antonio Spurs.

“I just want to hoop and be out there with my soldiers, go to war, try to the best of my ability help us win,” Butler said before the game.

“I think we’ll bring it,” Butler said. “If not you’ll see me yelling at people. That’s what I’m supposed to do. You’ll see me talking to some guys nicely, that’s what I’m supposed to do.”

Butler has a standing trade request to leave the Wolves.

Butler played very well tonight. I think people have forgotten how very good he is.

He had 23 pts on 23 shots (39%). He's exactly what I thought he was.

Teague played great and Wiggins was OK.... but KAT? :nonono:

Yea, what happened to KAT?

Does it have something to do with Butler?

Butler: "I just want to hoop and be out there with my soldiers, go to war".

This quote demonstrates why Butler is wrong in this case.

First, the other players are not 'his soldiers'. Butler does not own the team, nor the other players. If he would act as he should, be a team player, he would call them his camrades, mates, fellow soldiers, etc. Go together war with them, not showing off by trying to talk himself to be the leader. Leaders lead, are examples, not egoistically explain in every turn to media and others how 'they are the leader'.

Second, when you 'go to war with you soldiers', you engage in battle and fight, not ask transfer to an easier battle. This is especially so, if you consider yourself as the leader of the unit.

KAT and Wiggins won't play for him. But it's completely a ego issue which is the worst part and why he wants to get the hell out of there.

Shooting percent wasn't great, however I watched the game and he played very well.

Do you know how many stars had sub standard shooting on opening night? Here's a few:

Kawhi 40%
KD 42.9%
Giannis 42.9%
Embiid 42.9%
Harden 40%
PG 39%
Hayward 33%
Dennis Smith Jr 31.5%
LMA 30%
Klove 27.8%
Conley 27%
MGasol 18.2%
Draymond 16.7%
Millsap 14.3%
Kyrie 14%

I guess you think all these guys are inefficient/trash too?

Who said Jimmy was trash? But 23 shots is too many unless you're rolling. 18 shots and 5 more passes might have been a win. Then again, a DNP from Rose might certainly have been a win and KAT was a disaster. So I'm not calling Butler trash or blaming him for the loss. I'm just pointing out that this might not have been the best game to come out with "I think people have forgotten how very good he is."
