Rockets Offer Four First Round Picks To Wolves For Jimmy Butler

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Oct 26, 2018 2:56 am

The Houston Rockets have offered four first round picks to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Jimmy Butler.

The Wolves have continued to solicit offers for Butler since the start of the regular season.

The Rockets' offer constitutes the maximum number of first-round picks allowable in a deal, factoring in league rules that necessitate no first-rounders can be conveyed in successive years. The deal would have limited lottery protections.

The Rockets would have a strong desire to re-sign Butler in the offseason.

Only way I see them offering 4 picks is if the trade is Butler for Knight and Nene.

Surely the Wolves can do better than 4 picks in the mid to high 20s.

The Rockets have a couple players that can be traded starting on November 1st.

Two of the picks would come when Harden and Butler are 34 and 36 years old and CP3 is retired, easy to imagine lottery picks.

It would seriously cripple the Rocket's ability to stay relevant. Even if they are late lottery picks, they are four good players that will come up on a good team at rookie scale. I'll take that over Butler, who is often injured and has locker room concerns. Butler was a #30 pick himself... you can't be any latter in the 1st round than that.

4 x #28-#30 picks? I would rather have early 2nd round picks which are much more cap friendly.

If this is a legitimate offer and they don't take it they are even dumber than I thought possible.

CP3/Gordon/Harden/Butler/Capela

That might be able to beat the Dubs.

But Thibs' love for Butler knows no bound.

Depends on protections if they say no protections then they need to take it now...

What are the players included with these 4 picks over 7 years and what are the protections surely Houston would be unloading some garbage players and not Eric Gordon cause if this includes Eric Gordon that would be insane.. I think if they keep Capela Harden Cp3 Gordon and butler they have a legit chance against GSW.. GSW will still be better though

If they are unprotected, that sounds about right.

7 years, not 8. They can't have two consecutive future years without a 1st rounder. Last draft doesn't count as a future year.
1st round picks in 19,21,23,& 25 are available.

There's very little chance all of those picks would be so low. If unprotected, at least one would probably end up in the lottery.

I say go for it, if there is no way out from the Wiggington contract they have no way to climb above being a fringe playoff qualifier. Get a high pick this year of their own and 4 additional shots of 1st round picks to build around. If the picks are unprotected go for it.
