Harden is blessed to play in the current era - a truly gifted / crafty offensive player that understands how to stat pad ( kudos Westbrook on triple double binges ).
While the league has emphasized zero contact with offensive play - the league unfortunately has also turned a complete blind eye to traveling / carrying the ball / offensive fouls. Completely agree with Gregg Popovich that the game has completely lost its beauty - all 3pt shots / layups : no post play, defense is now allowed ( thanks NBA ), rewarding offensive stat padding ( Westbrook / Harden MVP ).
Applaud the NBA for eliminating rough defensive play, but it has gone overboard in completely giving free reign to offense & punishing defensive effort. Case in point, James Harden getting to the line sometimes more then the opposing team.
What is the remedy? A few suggestions - as players are getting more athletic they need to change court dimensions :
1) Widen and / or lengthen the NBA professional courts ( players are taller / more athletic / have wider wingspans today then before )
2) Add trapezoid box instead of rectangle for free throw area ( same as FIBA / international ) - competitive balance in rebounding within the paint / boxing out / reshaping the driving lane
3) Adding 4 point shot :
