Mavs Finalizing Deal To Acquire Kristaps Porzingis

The Dallas Mavericks are finalizing a deal to acquire Kristaps Porzingis from the New York Knicks.

The Knicks would reportedly receive Dennis Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews, and a first-round pick according to Mark Stein.

The Mavs would also take on the contracts of Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee.

The trade comes on the heels of a tense meeting between Porzingis and Knicks management this morning.

The trade gives the Knicks enough salary cap space for two max contracts this summer.

Damn really wish my Pacers could've gotten Hold of the Knicks before this went down. We have the expiring contracts and cap space to give them a very similar deal they got from the Mavs. Also, Once Oladipo is back that would be a pretty tough team to beat

if dallas didnt surrender this years pick to NY they are the overwelming winners in this, imagine if they add barret , zion or reddish

Wow. Have no idea what the knicks are thinking.

Dallas is jumpstarting this rebuild. I guess they give up some cap space, but really, the best possible outcome they could have had with capspace is signing a 23 yr old 2-way star.

It's a pretty awful return for the Knicks

But the dirty little secret is that Kristaps Porzingis hasn't proven himself in the NBA. I was dreading the day the Knicks would extend him. We may have dodged a bullet.

In the three years he played, every year he was strong out of the gate but then declined throughout the year as injuries, fatigue, and attrition set in. He was a 7'3 player trying to cross people up and jump over them -- not hard to foresee that was not a formula for long-term health and success.

That was quick... but the friction between KP and Knicks have been brewing for a while. Time is short so moving on is best for both parties.

Man I love this trade for the Knicks.
DSJ and Deandre are going to be great on the Knicks and they got rid of crappy contracts to boot.
Zinger is great, but injured a lot. When you are 8 feet tall and 150 lbs thats gonna happen. :lol:
