Sources Contend Mavs Were Informed Of Possible 'Extortion' Not 'Rape' Involving Kristaps Porzingis

According to two sources, the Dallas Mavericks were informed by the New York Knicks of a possible 'extortion' against Kristaps Porzingis and not of a pending rape allegation.

"The word that was used was 'extortion,'" one of the sources said.

"The word 'rape' was never used, only 'extortion,'" the second source said.

ESPN previously reported that the Mavericks were informed of the alleged rape by the Knicks during a trade call with the NBA.

Porzingis didn't travel with the Mavericks to their game on Saturday at Oklahoma City.

Depends on the perspective. May look more like NYK front office not fully disclosing what they knew about this situation in order to get a trade done before it broke publicly like it is now. Would look even worse if it comes to light that the Knicks team clearly knew it was a matter of time before this went public.

Or it could be viewed as stupidity on DAL part to not look into the matter as to the cause prior to making such a big trade for said player. Why is he being extorted? What is the cause and should we be concerned? Just a few questions would have helped their front office to get the information needed. Not asking only looks bad for them as you can say NYK FO gave them the information they had. And for all they knew that’s all KP told NYK at the time and was saying this lady in my building is trying to extort me. But then again that trade rumor came out thin air and an hour later it was completed. Seems like the NYK were on a mission
