Joe Ingles On FIBA World Cup: Australia Can Compete For Years To Come

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Apr 3, 2019 1:58 am

Joe Ingles praised the young basketball talent coming through Australia's basketball system as he looked ahead towards this summer's FIBA Basketball World Cup.

"It's such an amazing time for Australian basketball with so many players who can have a spot in the senior national team, and it’s great for the coach and the staff to have so many options to make the final team. We have a lot of young guys, a lot of very good veterans and we can build a very, very competitive team for this summer and for years to come," said Ingles.

Ben Simmons has yet to commit to the tournament this summer, but Ingles is aiming to bring home a medal regardless.

"We want to fight for the top spots and go back home with at least a medal, that would be so great. The battle is going to be tough, as plenty of teams can reach the top three spots, but we know we can compete against the best teams in the world. We have been waiting for so long to bring something back home, a trophy or a medal from the World Cup or the Olympics, and we really want to make a great campaign in China this summer."

We’d have a medal already if it wasn’t for some highly suspect referees vs Spain.

Dante is gonna get injured putting on his jersey, he won’t even make it on to the court.

I’m cool with your opinion. Just admit it when he proves you wrong

If they can avoid the US in the semis/finals, then it's possible. They'll have to finish second in the second stage to do so.
They also have a tough first round group with Canada and Lithuania.

Umm yeah. Have you been under a rock? His father is born in USA and became an Australian citizen and his mother is Aussie. He was born in Australia.
