Unnamed GM: Zion Williamson Instantly A Top-5 Asset In Entire NBA

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 15, 2019 4:41 pm

If Zion Williamson was a free agent instead of subject to the NBA Draft process and a rookie scale contract, at least one general manager believes he would unquionestably get a max contract.

“Yes,” said a general manager when asked the question. “Way, way more than the max … if allowed.”

The GM also said Williamson would be “A top five asset from Day 1.”

While he was still in the media, David Griffin called Anthony Davis a top-3 asset in the NBA.

He's not really saying anything bold.

Zion is the top college prospect since AD himself. He's 19 and under team control for at least 7 years. Of course he's a Top 5 asset.

Arent you guys a little worried that he is undersized and really doesn’t have a jumper yet?

It’s one thing to dunk on college centers and to get to the rim with ease in college. It’s a whole different beast when you are giving up 6+ inches and playing against grown men. He’ll be good. But maybe a slightly better version of Blake Griffin is probably what to expect.

He isn’t LeBron with the ball.. and I dont think he’ll develop that jumper. He’ll get destroyed defensively by guys like Giannis. I just dont buy the top 5 asset hype. In fact, I’d give strong consideration to trading down and selecting Morant or Barret while accumulating ungodly amount of assets in addition.

I agree - he is a Top 5 Trade Asset.

Who are the other Top 4, considering Talent, Age, and Contract?

I hope, I firmly hope this kid lives up to expectations. If he averages anything less than 18/7/5 at least as a rooke, there's gonna be a whole lotta bad noise. Even Wiggins didn't get this hype.

But I really don't see him posting up his opposing PF's and laying it up over the top of them, so he's have surprises coming in at least until he figures it out.

Right now he is, but just like a brand new car, the second he’s driven off the lot he could drop significantly. This dude doesn’t come out instantly looking like a franchise savior, he’s value is going to drop right back down to earth.

This GM should be fired. probably the Knicks GM...

Kawhi Leonard, Lebron James, Giannis, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, James Harden, Steph Curry are ALL higher by far. This guy could turn into a Ben Simmons or Wiggins. There is no guarantee. He could have blown knees from being over weight in 2-3 years. If any GM is going all in for him this early its way too risky for the reward. He is more likely to be an all star than a superstar.

This is something captain obvious would say...The #1 pick is always an elite trade asset, especially when there is a consensus pick.

The guess here is that the unnamed GM is David Griffin.

Not really. Anthony Davis, KAT and even Ben Simmons didn't drop in value after being driven off the lot.

If you come out of the gates like Anthony Bennett, then yeah, the value drops significantly. Blake Griffin and Greg Oden still had value even after being ruled out for their entire first season. And even Markelle Fultz had value for about a year.
