League GM's Discuss Possibility of Implementing Challenge System For Coaches

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu May 16, 2019 5:00 am

General managers around the league discussed the potential of having a challenge system for coaches during a meeting on Tuesday, according to Zach Lowe.

Discussions surrounded whether coaches should be able to challenge "black-and-white rulings" such as out-of-bounds plays and goaltending, but not fouls.

While specific details will still have to be ironed out, the topic has gained a new momentum, according to Lowe.

Lowe added that having a "replay official" at the scorer's table to trigger reviews without stopping play was another topic of discussion during the meeting.

How do you review without stopping play?

This is stupid. It's one more step down the replay slippery slope. What they need to do is get rid of replay altogether and demand that players, coaches, and owners, behave like grownups and not children. Things don't always go your way. That's life.

LOL. So if you are blatantly get screwed over you should just accept it?
It's not about "things going your way", this isn't about anybodies "way", it's about right or wrong.
You either get the call right or you get it wrong, hence the challenge system.
They are acting like grownups, the league/referee's needs to enforce the rules correctly like grownups.
Do you realize their are MILLIONS of dollars on the line? 1 game could be the difference between a coach losing his job.

You can very easily review a goal-tending call without stopping play.

They do review without stopping play. They check the toe on a three-pointer all the time while play continues.

As long as their check clears, no one is getting screwed over.

No, we're talking about sports. Entertainment. A pastime. Right and wrong have nothing to do with it short of players and/or fans assaulting each other.

Hence you get additional stoppages in play ... and pretty soon you're watching baseball.

If you're a game away from getting fired, you're getting fired. Today, tomorrow, the next day, next week, next month.

Wrong.
A game 7 win could be the difference between losing or keeping your job.
It's not just entertainment when there is millions of dollars at stake.

Apostrophes are not for plural acronyms. They are rare and precious punctuation marks meant only for possessives and contractions. Using them superfluously means there may not be enough when we really need them.
At the end of the day, it's not about wins and losses. Teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship make champions of us all.

Or getting your next job that said they are so overpaid for what they do who cares about their next million dollar cheque
