Kings, Mavs, Jazz, Pacers, Nets Expected To Pursue Tobias Harris

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 22, 2019 1:01 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers can offer Tobias Harris up to a five-year, $188 million contract in free agency.

Harris is also expected to receive interest from the Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz, Indiana Pacers and Brooklyn Nets. The most those teams can offer is a four-year, $141 million max contract.

The Sixers traded Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala, and four draft picks — including a protected 2020 first-rounder and the unprotected 2021 Miami Heat first-rounder in a package for Harris.

Jeez. I like Tobias, but whoever gives him anything close to 144M is going to be in trouble. Going off of his actual worth and the way the market generally plays out, something fair would be around 25M per year.

Too many suitors, someone will overpay and give him that max, I hope it's not us. Luka, Harris and broken down KP is a 1st round fodder.

I think PHI has too much sunken cost built into acquiring him, that they will do what it takes to re-sign him. I like Tobi, but he's in an advantageous market, and will probably get paid max money once the big names choose their destinations.

If all these teams will have interest and Tobias wants the max or as close as he can manage to it, you could definitely scratch the Pacers from the list. No chance they give that kind of payday.

Tobias is good, but not $30m good. How about 5-year $90m?

Sunk cost is "sunk". So, nevermind.

If the Sixers cannot re-sign Tobias to a reasonable contract, the team can always bolt for Khris Middleton or Julius Randle instead.

Kind of suck to see him struggle in the playoff and not live up to his border line all star reputation

I read a nice breakdown of why Tobias was an inefficient fit with the Sixers.

Basically, Doc Rivers saw that Harris was star-level effective at driving from the left wing to the right mid-post area, and at certain 3-point outposts. He tailored their system to maximize Harris' strengths, and put Tobi in the shop window because they were looking to flip him as an asset.

On paper, a stretch 3/4 with 3-point range made sense for the Sixers. But since PHI don't run the Clippers' system, Tobias' stats reverted from the outlier year he was having in LAC, back to his normal career productivity.

Um...what/how in the name of Harrison Barnes are the Kings in the market for Tobias Harris? I sense some agent trying to drum up a market by randomly naming franchises at this point.

There is no way the Sixers are letting Harris leave unless he just refuses to sign with them. After giving up 4 draft picks they will do what ever it takes to keep him.

Only way they have room is if they let Harris and Jimmy walk at least.. They probably still have no chance at Middleton who I would take over Harris any day.. 76ers so dumb to waste all those assests this year when Embiid and Simmons still developing..

PG - Fox (34 min) / Ferrell (14 min)
SG - Hield (32 min) / Bogdanovic (16 min)
SF - Barnes (30 min) / Bogdanovic (10 min) / Harris (8 min)
PF - Harris* (24 min) / Giles (or Bjelica) (18 min) / Bagley (6 min)
C - Bagley (24 min) / Dedmon* (24 min)
* = FA signing

Fox - 34 min
Hield - 32 min
Harris - 32 min
Barnes - 30 min
Bagley - 30 min
Bogdanovic - 26 min
Dedmon - 24 min
Giles/Bjelica - 18 min

You can make the argument that Bagley shouldn't be starting at C just yet, but a closing lineup of Fox/Hield/Barnes/Harris/Bagley could be pretty potent and tailor made for today's NBA. That's excellent spacing around a Fox-Bagley pick and roll.

The Sixers look really bad if they don't outbid these five teams for Harris.

Max money for Harris and Butler. Maybe it works out. Maybe not.

LOL... Harris is great. Maybe $25M per year great. He is not max money/years great. I feel for the team gives him that deal.

Middleton is worth more than Harris. Both will get maxed. Middleton won't make less.

You can also make the argument that Bagley is too skinny to be a center at all, and belongs at the PF spot you'd be stuffing with another shot hungry player. Fox/Hield/Barnes/Harris/Bagley = every single player wants to shoot, and there's no bulk to body anybody up in a Conference with Jokic, Gobert, Nurkic, Towns, Ayton, Adams, possibly Boogie if he stays West, Zion too for that matter.

Tobias has very worth re-signing, not just for his scoring but his rebounding
Tobias is better than his 8 rebounds per game, because when Embiid is struggling, Tobias dominates the boards, and had 15reb and 16reb games in the playoffs.
