The Phoenix Suns have told other NBA teams they are open to trading out of the No. 6 overall slot for a veteran guard.

The Suns have been searching for a starting point guard for several seasons.

The top two point guards in this draft, Ja Morant and Darius Garland, are expected to be off the board before the Suns select at No. 6.

Jrue Holliday makes the most sense.

Lowry is another possibility if Kawhi leaves.

They would probably do a draft day trade, while Lowry would not be an option until FA clears up.

Mike Conley Jr. too.

I don’t think Conley at 32 yrs old and the hefty salary he makes is worth a #6 pick. Plus he’s had injury issues as well.

Suns have the Bucks 1st rounder next season that they can probably use to trade for Conley though.

Probably would be the Bucks 1st rounder for Lowry.

It's not "a #6 pick" in the abstract. It's the number 6 pick in this years draft. That's the asset they have.

Whether he is worth a [typical] 6th pick and whether he's worth the ability to select 6th in this draft are separate questions, though one might come to the same answer.

They're actually one of the few teams that could feasibly trade for John Wall's albatross contract. They have the cap space for it. Not a bad fit next to Devin Booker either.

#6 pick + Josh Jackson might get it done.

John Wall's poor health and huge contract make him virtually untradeable. He has the worst contract in the league right now. The Suns should never (and hopefully would never) include the 6th pick in such a deal, they should actually be looking for assets in return from the Wizards to take on that contract with their cap space.

There are more likely targets here, Conley being at the top of the list. Teague and Rubio would be cheaper options who shouldn't cost #6. The Raps aren't going to deal Lowry until after the Kawhi free-agency situation is handled so that timeline doesn't fit with the draft.

I wouldn't do it either, but I think it's a possibility. I'd rather keep the #6 pick or try to move up during the draft to get Darius Garland.

Conley is too old for their core imo. Rubio is a pretty good candidate though, good fit next to Booker.

Does Smith Jr qualify?

Conley is older, I'm just not sure there are a lot of 22-26 year old PG's who are either worth the #6 pick or teams would be willing to deal them for that pick.

They could take on Wall for basically nothing and the Wizards would almost certainly do that, but that would handcuff the Suns going forward with a huge contract attached to an unreliable PG. That's not usually the all-in move a 20 win team wants to make.

I think they need to target somebody like Rubio. Smart, unselfish, above average defende and still only 28. They desperately need more bball IQ on that roster. And he wouldn't cost them an exuberant sum, with the Jazz looking to put Mitchell at the point he's likely available.

The Suns are not a high bball IQ team right now and Smith Jr would actually make the team even dumber if that's possible.

I would hope they don't think he's worth the #6, that would be a mistake. Huge coop for the Knicks though.

Jrue Holiday for the 6th pick and some more. Who says no?
