Multiple NBA teams have had conversations about phasing the term "owner". At least two teams have already made the switch.
The issue gained momentum in 2018 when Draymond Green argued against the term on LeBron James' television show "The Shop."
"You shouldn't say owner," Green said.
Green suggested the title be changed to CEO, Chairman or Majority Shareholder.
"We refer to the owners of our teams as Governors; each team is represented on our Board of Governors," said the NBA in a statement to TMZ.

Exactly he owns the team not the players.. The term is owner of the team.. Also geez this symatics when players are paid hundreds of millions in gauranteed money.. it's also a players league.. come on this is ridiculous.. The clippers owner was a clear racist prick they got rid of him which was the right thing.. But changing the term owner umm no they own the team they do not own the players..

what does how much a player makes have to do with this discussion? is there a dollar amount where you should not care or have an opinion?
edit: also, draymond's past comments are being highlighted, but this is ironically about the "owners" discussing this matter among themselves and addressing it as they see fit. not about players or "semantics."

Talk about egotistical to the extreme. This could only be looked at insensitively if you assume the players ARE the team and therefore don't want someone labeled "owner" of the team. Each TEAM employs hundreds beyond the on the court roster and is much more than any one or collective 15 players. Get over yourself....

He owns the team Dreymond, not the players. You can relax. NOBODY owns you.

And yet Draymond had this to say, only 2 days ago......
Green told NBC Sports Bay Area of what was said after Game 1. "And we live in a day and age where people — we live in a soft-ass world to where everything is a problem, and everything is a major issue."

It’s obvious why none of you agree with this, if you know you know.

Big businesses in the US are operated like this. What is the problem? Draymond even provided a reasonable solution. I'm on board with it.

While there are specific reasons why the NBA could be especially vulnerable to the idea that rejects the concept of ownership, such rejection is becoming a society-wide issue. Ownership over a contract or of an organization emphasizes the level of individual responsibility by the owner. By trying to remove the concept of an 'owner', society is attempting to dilute such responsibility, placing the onus on the group, thereby creating an easy out for shirking responsibility via the pass-the-buck mentality. The clear path of denial of personal responsibility setting into society in recent years is destructive and will not end well.

It's owner not master. An owner owns something bought or created. This is dumb ****.

Wow....in a discussion where it highlights why the Optics might be bad for someone to be called the Owner of a Black employee....People have resorted to calling a black man a Donkey among other things. I guess for some people sacrificing your pride has a number. I guess to some people athletes should just shut up and dribble.

Cuban was right. Dray should have taken a business course during his four years at MSU, Broad is a great business school. There's a difference between an owner, a chairman and a CEO. And "Donkey" is an homage to the Shrek series. I get it, comparing any black person to an animal is not cool. I'm black, I and my kids have been there.
But it's no more racist for James Dolan to own a team as it is for Truett Cathy to own Chic-Fil-A.

Big business is like this because they generally are Public companies and the CEO owns stock not the company.. If you owned the company you would be the owner you could also be the CEO.. If you own the company though you are the owner.. They own the teams not the players..
