Celtics, Rockets Recently Discussed Trade For Clint Capela

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 19, 2019 5:47 am

The Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets have discussed a trade for Clint Capela, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

Al Horford broke off contract talks with the Celtics earlier today with the expectation that he will sign with another team.

Marc Stein reported earlier in June that the Rockets are expected to trade at least one of Capela, PJ Tucker, or Eric Gordon. Chris Paul has also reportedly demanded a trade from the Rockets.

Capela averaged 16.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game last season.

Hmm.. I wonder who Boston would give up for Capela. I don't think giving up on Capela would be a smart move in this scenario unless they get Tatum or Brown.I think Tatum might be too much for Boston given they didn't really want to move him for Anthony Davis.

Below is basically two possible trades ideas that involve Jaylen Brown for Clint Capella.

Celtics blew it by not re-signing Horford. Now they don't hold the upper hand in getting a center. I expect the Rockets wanting at least two 1st rd picks for Capela.

I'm surprised Capela is on the block. Just last season he was touted as one of the most sought after C's in the league with his defensive/inside ability.

Jaylen Brown for Capela makes sense for both teams.

Both win.

Horford would be if interest to the Rockets. Wouldn’t be surprised if a sign and trade of some sort could still be worked out here if the Celtics add a pick or take on same salary.

I think Houston should not really be too interested in trading for Horford. They are better off keeping Capella. You never should trade to get older, but you never know what these teams are thinking. I think Tatum or Brown have to be in the deal.

Three reasons they would.

Capela was a huge net negative against the Warriors each of the last two playoff years and generally struggles when opponents force him to guard away from the rim. If he can’t stay of the floor for the playoffs, he can’t help them win a title.

Horford is older but he’s better equipped for the modern game. He can shoot the 3, pass and guard out on the perimeter. Those are Capela’s 3 biggest weaknesses. Horford also has one of the highest bball IQ’s in the league.

Houston is already all in on CP3 and Harden with expensive older players, so they’re not trying to win in 2024, only 2020. They’re looking to improve around the edges and Horford would help provide that in the short term. Plus they could likely get another asset and dump some payroll in the transaction.

Also, Boston isn’t trading Tatum for Capela in any scenerio. 0.0% chance. Brown is likely off the table too.
