Magic Expected To Offer Four-Year, $90M Deal To Nikola Vucevic

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jun 28, 2019 8:21 pm

The Orlando Magic are expected to offer a four-year deal to Nikola Vucevic worth more than $90 million.

The Magic hope to complete a deal with Vucevic shortly after the start of free agency.

Vucevic had a career season in 18-19, making his first All-Star Game before free agency.

He is really good.
Always solid but played really well under the new system.

I don't think so. Vucevic is a very good player and Orlando isn't exactly a hot bed for free agents. They have a really hard time getting major free agents there, so if they have a good player they need to lock him up when they have the chance.

Seems like an underpay to me when Barnes is going to get a near identical salary.

???

it's an obvious UNDERpay. he'll get more based on the season he just had. he was a stud. and his skillset shouldn't decline much over the course of his next contract

per 36:

vucevic 24/14/4
jokic 23/12/8

I'd love to take Vucevic and Harrison Barnes at 90 million each. That is going to be a great team if a GM can fill in the gaps.

He's a Center who can be a go to scorer, that can stretch the floor out to 3 (36% on 3 attempts per game), pass the ball, and is a great rebounder. He also gets you a block and a steal per game and while not a rim protector he's not a bad defensive player either.

He'd be an unbelievable fit next in New Orleans, Dallas, Boston, LAC and if somehow the Spurs could make space, them too. If he's getting that type of deal, then maybe the contracts guys like Middleton and Harris are going to get are gonna come in lower then I expected to...

$90m/4 yrs is a very reasonable price to pay for the service of a freshly minted All-Star center. Losing him for nothing will leave a bad taste in any GM's mouth. But what's going to happen to the team's center of the future, Mohamed Bamba? The team can focus on either Nikola or Mohamed but not both. This really is a case of poor planning of the front office.

After 7 years I don't think you can or should really trust a sudden 'career year" just in time for a contract, but that said, if Harrison Barnes is worth $88mil in this market, Vuc is worth more than $90.

If we sign him to 4 I hope that they have a really great trade set up for Bamba. It would be a shame to waste his career keeping him as a backup.

Mo is 21 years old man.

Even if Vuc survives all 4 years of that deal as the starter in Orlando, Bamba would only be 25 when Vuc leaves. He would basically backup Vuc through his rookie deal. There is still a bright future beyond that.

Point of view mistake, agent point of view.
The only contact that could set anything is a contract that most of the people think it's fair, and most of the people think Barnes will be overpaid, so his contact will be an error and can't set anything.

That offer is an insult. He should be getting 30 Million per year.

I'm certain he would turn down that lowball offer.

He likes Orlando and just started a family. He doesn't have the personality to make big changes. A few years ago when every team was handing out huge contracts Fournier did the same thing and took less then what he could get at the time.

I know money isn't everything, but 90 million vs 120 million is asking a lot.

If Vucevic went from scoring 6 a game to 24 you would be right but his numbers fell in line with many of his other seasons except he has learned to shoot the 3 and had a complete season so this was no "sudden career year". Here are his number of previous career high followed by last year pts 19.3 last yr 20.8, Rebounds 11.9/12, Assists 3.4/3.8, steals 1.1/1, blocks 1.1/1.1, Fg % .523/.518, ft% .819/.789 and 3pt % you can only look at the last 3 years as the only years he shot at least 1 a game and his numbers are .307/.314/.364 and as he just turned 28 last year he squarely was entering his prime.
