Kawhi Leonard Would Have Signed With Lakers If Not For Clippers' Paul George Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jul 7, 2019 12:57 am

Kawhi Leonard would have signed with the Los Angeles Lakers had the Los Angeles Clippers been unable to secure their trade for Paul George, sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

By trading an unprecedented package to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Clippers were effectively acquiring George, acquiring Leonard, and also blocking Leonard from going to the Lakers.

"Without George, they were losing Leonard to the Lakers," writes Wojnarowski while citing sources.

The Clippers also held fears that Sam Presti was close to a trade with the Toronto Raptors involving George, which would have resulted in Leonard re-signing with the incumbent team.

The Raptors, however, didn't have the ability to counter the Clippers' offer for George.

Everyone swears Kawhi "stuck it to the Lakers", he did what he had to do and he came out with a good deal and running mate in PG. People live in the moment and act like Laker fans are on suicide watch because they didnt3get Kawhi, he wasn't going to make or break them, he just would've made them overwhelming favorites like the Warriors. Its better like this and now the Lakers have an incredibly interesting team.

He played the Lakers, don't get it twisted, we were really his last resort because he was buying time n even asked for more time to see if torture or lac could get pg.... That's is " Sticking it" To Lakers cause he even recruited pg to demand a trade

That's ok Canadians just have to adapt and keep flipping stars that are still under contract.

We won't grow an attachment to players and just use and throw away to another team like a tampon.

lebron is biggest scum he made Kevin Love and Anthony Davis force trades out of Minnesota and New Orleans so he could win rings. Kawhi always wanted to go to LA and beat Lebron so he had to be a realist and recruit his own superstar running mate to level the playing field. The Clippers played the long game stockpiling draft picks which became enough even if it was a high price to Land PG while the team still maintains its bench depth. The Lakers under the Buss family ownership, Pelinka management and Magic influence is the joke of LA this is nothing like when the team was owned by Dr. Jerry Buss and managed by Jerry West.

This is pretty much a PR cleanup work for Kawhi.

Toronto - "We are going to trade for PG. We'll come up with something"
Clippers - "We have a better offer for PG."

According to what's been disclosed to the media, Presti was going to deal PG anyway (Reports of tension with management and also not wanting a disgruntle star for all of a season). Either way, Kawhi was going to go to a team where PG was going to. He used the Lakers to put pressure on Toronto and Clippers.

You really shouldn't base anything on that, considering according to the Media, there was 0% chance he was going to the Clippers.

Kawhi telling the Lakers you were close.

LeBron told his teammates he was just a player like them, got their back and not involved in any trade decisions.

I enjoy Kawhi playing LeBron like a puppet.

Love didn’t win Lebron that ring. That ring was Kyrie and Lebron’s. If anyone helped carry Lebron, it was Kyrie not Love.

Rondo and Cousins are incredibly interesting? :)
I found the Lakers more interesting last season, and they traded away their interesting players to the Pelicans....

This sounds fishy. I think Kawhi was first trying to recruit KD to the Clippers, but KD had already decided on the Nets with his friends. Next, Kawhi decided on the Lakers and was going to go there until Paul George popped up. He wanted the Clippers all along because they could sign two max FAs. The Paul George trade was not a normal situation, so the Clippers ended up giving more in trade than they normally would. They had to do what the Lakers did in order to prevent the Lakers from getting Kawhi. The Raptors really weren't in it once the Lakers got AD.
