Zion Williamson addressed his disappointment in getting shutdown for the rest of Summer League after suffering a bruised knee in his preseason debut for the New Orleans Pelicans.

"It was more precautionary," said Williamson, who scored 11 points in nine minutes against the Knicks.

Williamson's debut was the highest rated Summer League game in league history.

Williamson, who came into Summer League weighing 284 lbs, did not provide any specific goals in how he would get into game shape.

"I'll let the trainers help me with that," added Williamson.

He's being protected, he didn't look very good in that 1 game. I question his basketball IQ, I think he'll be an ok player in the long run.

Looks like a dunking machine to me. He was pretty aggressive. Nice debut.

It'll be very hard to stop him from scoring in the paint without fouling him :o
His every move is ferocious, plus his vertical leap makes his height irrelevant....
I think he'll be the best scorer in the NBA during his prime.

Nobody ever saw when he hurt his knee by banging it into another player. Euphemism for being so heavy he strained his knee trying to jump high enough to shoot over Robinson?

I understand he is going to leave getting him back in shape to the trainers. I can just hear him saying, "While they take care of getting me in game shape, I'll just chow down to keep my strength up."

With that frame, knee and ankle problems will be common. Get used to it Pelican fans.

More strategic. The place was sold out and erupted every time he touched the ball. Pelicans gonna let that anticipation build up for the season. There is far too much pressure on that dude.

He wouldn't be resting if we were in the regular season.
There is no evidence that he's injury-prone.
Its common practice to skip summer league games.
He's already an established superstar, and he's being treated as such.

He clearly hasn't been all over the gym since the draft (and probably before it). I wouldn't worry about his weight. They're smart to shut him down now. Now is the time to let the knee heal and focus on his diet. He doesn't need to drop it all, just enough to where the impact on his knees won't be too hard.

I don't understand why many are being so negative on him. He'll be fine. He's a teenager with endless potential

I don't know how you can last an NBA season when you get injured on a meaningless summer league game.
