Not a fan of this move. But I just personally think this guy sucks. Raptors have a way of developing players, so maybe they can make use out of him. Good luck Payne.....

Im sure Masai owed his agent a favor. Long shot to make the team. He can't shoot (.482 career TS%), he cant defend (110 career defensive rating) and has only played 40 games in last 2 seasons.

He's only 24 and his TS% was .598 in 9 games with CLE last season which tells me that much of his issue was situational. Don't get me wrong, he's a 7th or 8th man at best. But he's still got enough upside to be given a roster spot.

You're referencing a 9 game sample space, really?. What upside does he have?, he's played 153 games in the NBA, 40 in the last 2 years. Im betting $5 he doesnt even make the team. Additionally he'll be 25 next month.

Aren’t all players on the end of the bench long shots?

With guys like Payne, RHJ and S Johnson who were all considered solid prospects at one point, you just hope to strike lightning in a bottle once

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Well Stanley Johnson is 23 with 285 games under his belt and played last season. He came into the league at 19 (too young) and just needs a fresh start after Pelicans took a flyer on him after he didnt work out in Detroit.

Hollis Jefferson is 24 with 234 games under his belt who had a promising start to his career with Nets before he got hurt. He's got a positive career VORP and is an above-average defender with a career PER of 14.6

Trey Burke or Jerian Grant would have been better options but I guess they only offered so much to Payne and he performed well enough in summer league to get invited to training camp with some guaranteed money.

It's a meaningless sign, the likes of Lloyd and Miller on last year's team.
Who cares.

Johnston was an 8th pick, Payne a 14th pick and RHJ a 23rd pick. These signings are no worse than having those draft slots and bringing in 3 unproven rookies.

You listed all those games played numbers making it clear that you completely missed my point.

But glad to see that you already know that Burke or Grant were clearly better options, Masai doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing with cheap talent and player development so he could probably use your expert help in that department.

Lol. Well that’s not true. These 3 players have proven over the last 4 years that they weren’t worth their draft slot and are now much older than the players that will be drafted. the Raps are just hoping they’re late bloomers.

Or do you really think that Stenely Iohnson is worth the 8th pick in the 2019 draft?
