Spurs Hire Tim Duncan, Will Hardy As Assistant Coach

The San Antonio Spurs have hired Tim Duncan and Will Hardy as assistant coaches.

Duncan will be on the front of the bench alongside Becky Hammon and Will Hardy.

San Antonio lost assistant coaches Ime Udoka and Ettore Messina this offseason.

“It is only fitting, that after I served loyally for 19 years as Tim Duncan’s assistant, that he returns the favor,” said Popovich.

Hopefully Timmy does as well on this new role as he did as a player. A feel good story to be sure, but we've seen it before. His career was long and illustrious... one has to assume he picked up a veritable cornucopia of knowledge along the way... Go Spurs, Go!

You think starting as an assistant coach is beneath Tum Duncan.. it suits him perfectly and is the smart way to go about it.. jumping straight into a coaching role is usually not a smart way ..

So much for thinking that Becky Hammond would be the first female head coach in the NBA. It certainly was trending that way with Poppovich getting up there in age. I suppose she will have to try her luck with another franchise.

You really shouldn't harp on the "one person's gain is another person's loss" principle. It's all relative. Becky is very successful, and she may still become yet more successful. But to say "so much" for her next step into a becoming a head coach is a little premature.

You cant hire becky as your HC. Theres tioo much turnover in the NBA. Head coaches who are named coach of the year, get fired in this league. A team that hires becky, will eventually fire her. And the public Firestorm will be upon them for doing so. Maybe be the 2nd team to hire a female HC. But not the 1st
