John Wall Likely Out For 2019-20 Season

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jul 25, 2019 5:45 am

John Wall "probably won't play" next season as he rehabs his Achilles injury, according to Ted Leonsis.

Wall initially had heel surgery last winter, then tore his Achilles while recovering from surgery.

Wall has four years remaining on his contract.

This is it for Wall. He won't be returning the same (or near the same) player as before. Sucks to be a wiz fan

He would retire if he didn’t have so much money coming his way the next 4 years.

They'll be shopping him hard this season, Beal too. I'd take Wall for KP in a heartbeat.

It was almost obvious that he's gonna miss most of this season, if not all of it. I don't know why people are so gutted from these news.

...are you saying you’d rather have Wall then Kristaps Porzingis?

Ted aint upset , the insurance will pay majority of wall's salary, probably why they want him to take the full season off.

Yes, shorter contract, much less injury prone, better player, is that enough?

Paid twice as much, in the last 2 seasons has played 32 and 41 games, this season will play 0.

Not even close to twice as much. Tiers better player for much longer time. KP missed last whole season and %-wise missed more games than anyone else in the league (55% ish in 4 years).

Hyperbolic, but to be exact, $11 million more this coming year...and, fwiw after this season Wall will be the player with the most games missed. It's pretty disingenuous to assert that Wall is more durable than KP when he just had a catostrophic injury, and KP is healthy. The Wizards mine as well be burning $38 million this year.

Wall has played 5 more seasons than KP, so him having missed more time due to injuries makes sense. And sure Wall has had a lot of injuries and his last one was super bad, but so was KP's last injury that made him miss 1 and a half season. Also, KP is a super tall dude and his array of lower body injuries doesn't bode well for his future, he's on track with Yao.

Including this coming season Wall will have played 41, 32, and 0 games in consecutive seasons. For Kristaps to have missed as many games in the same 3 year stretch, he'd have to play less than 25 games this coming season. I'm really not buying what you are selling, Wall wasn't durable early in his career, and he certainly isn't now. Even if neither of them ever play another NBA game, KP is paid less, and is therefore more valuable.

Valuable as what? No one is touching both of those contracts any time soon.
