NCAA Implements 'Rich Paul Rule' For Underclassmen Testing NBA Draft Waters

The NCAA is outlining new certification requirements for agents to represent players testing the NBA draft waters.

Agents must possess a bachelor's degree, NBPA certification for at least three consecutive years, professional liability insurance and completion of an in-person exam taken at the NCAA office in Indianapolis in early November.

The requirement of a bachelor's degree has led some to refer to it as the "Rich Paul Rule." Paul began working with LeBron James while in college and didn't graduate.

According to the new NCAA criteria, Paul wouldn't be able to represent underclassmen testing the NBA draft waters.

James weighed in on the new certification requirements via social media Tuesday.

Pretty clear that he's pointing out the biased nature behind the rule to trip up the success of Rich Paul and others who pave their own way.

No it is like proposed US Gun control legislation it protects people from themselves in this case draft prospects who play in the NCAA and its various organized sports divisions. Rich has conned a lot of guys using his relationship with Lebron and the NCAA wants to protect these good kids some are even minors if they are a freshman and have a birthday after they are drafted. We don't need con artists screwing over hardworking kids and their families. Enough is enough. Rich should go back to selling jerseys out of his car or perhaps the Kia Lebron got from Kia Motors to use in ads that he never drives lol. Or heck maybe Dick's Sporting Goods will hire him and he can drive Uber on the side like the main character in the recent Dave Bautista film Stuber with Kumail Nanjiani.

If you got shot with a gun and were suffering from internal bleeding would you not want your ER Doctor to at least have graduated from Medical school forget about a bachelor's degree? Agent's should at least have a bachelor of arts with no major. If Rich can't go to night school and put in the work to get that or heck even online via the University of Phoenix then he doesn't deserve to be an agent especially for NCAA players.

There’s a huge difference between a ER doctor and a sports agent. Only through the institutionalization of medicine did the pipeline through medical school occur. Then they still have to go through years of being assistants at a hospital until they show they are professionally capable.
Underclass men can choose if rich Paul is capable for them. It’s not like he is some no degree greenhorn with no previous clients. They can see his history.

The point is there wasn’t a problem with agents to begin with, only with rich Paul gaining power did they see a problem. And it’s not even a problem with his performance. They just don’t like his influence, so other agencies and the ncaa probably jointly decided on this.

Are we going to require real estate agents to be 4 year grads now? If they pass the licensing test they are agents. Even lawyers don’t have to have degrees If they pass the bar and get under a firm.

Pretty much this

So, the NCAA, which uses a free bachelors degree to justify not paying its athletes, is now requiring a college degree to justify excluding those whose work is exclusively to get athletes paid.

The NCAA needs to take its own medicine and study economics, especially the substitution effect. The NCAA effectively created all kinds of middle man relationships for universities when they originally outlawed direct compensation. Now, there's guaranteed to be a quick run on low-level agents with degrees to push paper.

Anyways, if the rule doesn't specify that it can't be an honorary degree, it's consistent with the ham-fisted tactics of the NCAA. Paul already has one from Cleveland State.

More lunacy from the reprehensible, indefensible pimping corporation called the NCAA.

LeBitch all in his feels. Don’t tweet when you’re on the rag dude. Smh. #manupdude #youresupposedtobearolemodelnotawhineybitch

(He does realize Rich Paul can get a degree if he really cares, right? ****, he could probably write the challenge tests on a Sports Business degree easy, or give a graduation speech and get an honorary degree. Rich Paul’s world isn’t over LeBron, no need to have your period on Twitter)

Nice Victim Mentality you got there. Lebron too.

If Rich Paul really cares then he can finish his degree. There’s a ton of easy routes, especially for a guy with his influence, to get it done. It’s simple.

Grow a pair and take responsibility for your own life. Challenges are going to come your way; you can either man up and overcome them, or lay crying about how unfair they are in the corner. The world is watching you, what kind of man do you want them to see? Lil’ baby bitch or THE MAN, your choice.

That doesn't come out of the 140 characters, but OK.

Why would the NCAA be biased against Rich Paul? Is it a race thing?
