Jeremy Lin has signed with the Beijing Shougang Ducks in China.

Lin turned 31 last week and played in the NBA for nine seasons.

Wow. I was hoping Lin would hold out a little longer. Guess he got a good deal or god contract or both. Wonder if this closes the door on a return back to the NBA?

*As an aside: how many players have gone to China and then returned (successfully) to the NBA? For example, I would consider Wilson Chandler a decent example here...

While unfortunately Jeremy Lin has signed overseas - he leaves the league accomplishing what very few players have.

Harvard graduate with incredible journey from fringe 2nd round player, to darling of NYC basketball.
Journey to various teams on long term deals - steady improvement along the way.
While injured with the Nets, wins championship with Toronto.

The NBA has only 450+ players in the world -- to be one is an incredible honor. He has opened the door up for many future generations of players from all walks of life.

Here is to wishing J. Lin an incredible continuation of of this journey.

Now you can be a king out there and build your brand. Even if he never comes back to the NBA, huge opportunity to make some money for his family imo

He made a mistake with the Atlanta buyout, then signing with the Raptors.

He had good stats on ATL, enough to score a decent contract.

Playing with the Raptors exposed his inability to defend and consistently hit threes... The two biggest reasons why they won a title. He couldn't even come close to breaking into that rotation. It exposed him, and left him without a contract.

Oh thank god for that, but come buyout time of the season they will reappear begging any pretender or contender to take him aboard. Will be like that until he retires.

It was a good 9 years.

I think he'll stay in the cba personally...

China was an inevitable destination.

Feels a bit early...but 30 nba gms disagree.

...it was a good run.

I mean, he's made over $60M in his career. I'm sure most people would trade a significant portion of that to win a ring, even at the end of the bench... especially as a fringe NBA player.

He deserves to play rather than sit on the bench. Good move by him.

Did he even play though? I think a ring where you can say you played a role (in the gams) no matter how counts. But, a ring for being on the roster is like a ring for being on the staff. Is he really gonna wear that ring around (china) town?

Not many. Aside from the obvious- players go mainly there when they can no longer play in the nba, or never really could- The CBA isn't really a good place to get better. The talent level is low. They can only have 2 white or black guys on the team and one Taiwan guy. The coaches on every team except GuangZhou tell their players to just pass to the foreign guy every time. It's a joke. Lin's game was never to score 40 a night, but it is now. Is that really going to help him help an NBA team come playoff time? He will get his confidence up, that's for sure. But unless a team really needs scoring from the 1 spot and is out of options, I don't see a good fit.

The ring is a reminder of the season that ended his career lol.

He didn't earn the ring, but he was on the roster. He had a solid NBA career, so it's a nice token to have.

Yeah, I mean he didn't EARN it like Kobe or Lebron did with their rings, but the Raptors chose to sign him thinking he could help their playoff run, so he earned his ring in that sense. It's not like he came in a trade as the salary matching guy.

I think that's the question that only people like us, who've never won a ring, have to ask each other. As time passes the importance will obviously subside for him more than the guys who contributed, but at the moment when the buzzer sounded and they're all celebrating in the locker room, there's no way he was thinking about the minutes he didn't play or the points he didn't score. At the very least, being able to share that kind of experience with friends (Danny Green) & colleagues (everyone else) is something very few people get a chance to do.

I imagine he is going to tear up the CBA

Having him excel in the CBA might actually be really benificial for China as a whole

Most NBA fans are content to just live in the city that won a ship. I'm guessing the view from the end of the bench is a bit better than most of us have experienced!
