Eric Gordon Agrees To Four-Year Contract Extension With Rockets

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Aug 31, 2019 5:36 am

Eric Gordon and the Houston Rockets have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $75.6 million, league sources told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

The 30-year-old Gordon, who is heading into the final year of his contract, will make roughly $90 million over the next five years.

Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the final year of the extension, worth $20.9 million, is not guaranteed unless the Rockets win an NBA title or he makes an All-Star team.

So the final year will not be guaranteed.... still a great deal for both sides.

Good for him. He’s probably the only player I like on the Rockets. Harden’s mouth and playing style makes it impossible to route for him lol

So its essentially a 3 year 18 million dollar per season contract with a nice sized trade chip going into the off-season after year 3, being able to bring in 20 million in assets from somewhere while he can get released. Nice touch and seemingly a win/win. The 20 million guarantee for the final season is interesting but totally worthless since we know he won't be an all-star or win a ring that year. Makes for an interesting story though and a nice sentiment.

So let say he got traded before year 4, and houston win a champ without him, does he still get paid?

i would imagine so. because whoever he was traded for would have contributed to the championship and thus his extension would have been partly responsible for the success

weird incentive, though, given that it's not necessarily indicative of his performance

the unguaranteed year only shifts the trade options by a year, i.e. potential expiring deal during year 3 rather than during year 4

i'd be very surprised if the incentives don't cover each of the next 3 seasons

They should have traded him for a better option at PF. Harden and Westbrook is more than enough at the 1 and 2.

incentives meaning requirements to qualify for the 18 mil? i.e. playing X number of games?

Both need Gordon around them badly. He is who could make that duo work... if it works at all. I think Houston will stink though.

they're capped out, so it's pay him or lose him w/o replacement. and he would have gotten a similar offer elsewhere. he's been a nice fit in houston. they'd just better hope that his game doesn't fall off the cliff like cp3's did after he got paid. two years younger than cp3 at the time of the deal
