DeMar DeRozan, Spurs Discussing Contract Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Oct 4, 2019 2:49 pm

DeMar DeRozan and the San Antonio Spurs have held discussions on a contract extension but no deal is imminent at this point.

The Spurs acquired DeRozan from the Toronto Raptors as part of the Kawhi Leonard trade in 2018.

The Spurs extended LaMarcus Aldridge in October of 2017.

DeRozan has a player option for 20-21 worth $27.7 million.

“That’s not on my mind,” DeRozan said at media day when asked about his contract status. “My focus is to go out there and hoop. How everything will unfold, that’s how it will unfold.”

I think they should trade him and let one of their young players take over. He just can't be trusted when it counts, so paying him 30 + mill a year is a waste.

As a Raptors fan, I can attest to the fact that it's hard to trade a shooting guard that doesn't defend or hit 3's. The spurs were desperate when they took him.

trade him or let him expire. The guy's not worth more than I dunno...with the cap rising maybe 15M and I know he's not taking that and someone will give him it. And 15 feels high.

There are 86 players in the NBA making over $15M this season. DeRozan is better than more than half of them.
