Andrew Wiggins has had a disappointing pair of seasons after signing a five-year, $147.7 million max contract extension in 2017.

ESPN ranked Wiggins outside the top 100 of their annual rankings.

"I don't really look at that too much, top 100 or not top 100," Wiggins told ESPN on Thursday. "There's not 100 players better than me, so it doesn't matter what people think. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. My job is to come out here and hoop, and that's what I'm going to do."

Wiggins has played for four different coaches since entering the NBA.

"It's not an excuse to say it altered my play too much," Wiggins said. "Every coach is different, every coach has different playing styles, but no coach made me have a negative experience playing."

Wiggins would rather prove his worth on the court than in the media.

"Everyone is counting pockets. Some people are mad about [it], some people are happy for you," Wiggins told ESPN. "That's how the world goes, especially when you've got something they don't have or do something they don't do. That's how the world goes.

"Even when I averaged almost 24 points and got the max deal, people were still saying stuff," he added. "Look at max players and some max players don't average as much, but it is what it is. I'm just trying to get right, get back on track."

The quote from him about average points is telling. He's acting as if that is an objective measure of who is good.

Commentators stopped doing that 10 years ago. Basketball execs stopped a long time before that.

well, let's see...according to VORP, barnes has produced 7 wins for his teams thus far in his career. he will have earned 167 million dollars through his age 30 season

parsons: 32 wins, 127 mil through age 31. he used to be really good. so he's an afterthought in this convo

wiggins has COST his team 5 wins and is will have earned 171.5 mil through his age 27 season. basically a D-leaguer getting paid like he's lebron. ding, ding, ding! we have a winner

sorry lads, I was irie when I wrote the last comment. Since then Wiggs has gone on to lay another stinker versus Milwaukee. Now I'll grant you that the Bucks are the cat's arse right now, but Wiggs performance was off the charts awful. His contract is easily one of the worst out there and in history. The Wolves have got to find a way to get out from under that awful deal. Until they do, they aing going no where...

They gave Wiggins the money same as all the other players.. So not angry at Wiggins at all for earning the money but the fact is he is not a top 100 player.. he doesn't get that scoring in an ineffienct manner and being poor on defence means your actually a net negative there are guys that are scoring 7 points and have more of a positive effect on their team.. Getting the shots Wiggins does not make you a top 100 player making the shots does... And at your age playing such **** defence is a joke.. To be fair this was all transparent before they gave him the max imagine they had maxed butler and let Wiggins walk.. They would be a much better team right now..
