DeMar DeRozan, Spurs Remain Far Apart On Extension Talks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Oct 22, 2019 2:58 pm

DeMar DeRozan and the San Antonio Spurs have continued to discuss a contract extension, but a source tells Sam Amick of The Athletic that the two sides remain far apart on terms.

DeRozan has a player option for the 20-21 season at $27.7 million. A max extension for DeRozan at this time would be worth $150 million over four seasons.

DeRozan was traded to the Spurs by the Toronto Raptors during the 2018 offseason.

He's going to play great this season and then sign for the free agent max with the Raptors.

He can't play for the Raptors anymore. We defend, we shoot, and we get rid of the ball. He does none of those things, unless he wants to come off the bench as a super Manu.

Murray just signed what many believe it's an unevaluated deal. The Spurs are adept talent appraisers and they know Demar's talents and what he brings are gettable -- or pretty close -- at 1/3 less the money... Probably closer to half!

Why extend him at all? How is he not picking up that albatross option for next year?

trade him for a couple second round picks and be done with it.
