Anthony Davis has a $28.7 million player option for the 20-21 season and almost certainly will become a free agent. Most expect Davis to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers next offseason.

“Don’t f--- it up,” one source close to Davis told Sam Amick of The Athletic when asked how people should see the Lakers' odds of re-signing him.

Davis helped orchestrate a move to the Lakers by requesting a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans. The Lakers traded Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and a number of first round picks to the Pelicans for Davis.

"They’re all alone in pole position, but you still have to get it over the finish line without the car going up in flames,' writes Amick in an attempt to translate the message.

"The car going up in flames"? It's the Lakers, with LeBron at the wheel and Rich Paul riding shotgun, plus Dwight Howard and Rondo in the trailer. What on earth could go wrong?

So are they trying to say, don't lowball him? GTFOOH. Where is he going to go next year? He will get paid the most by LA, so if anything he better not F up.

I think he's re-signing no matter how bad they suck this year. but a guy like him will be demanding a trade from the Lakers once LeBron retires. I also worry about LeBron's ability to be the #1 or #2 option without a third all-star keeping his miles down. Its too much to put on him at this stage in his career. This team can not compete for a championship in the west.

You missing the point. It's not about money. He will get the max regardless where he end up. This was clearly a shot at LeBron or the coach. If LeBron treat him like a sidekick , like he treated bosh, love and kyrie, he gone

Not saying anything we don't already know about this situation. Let's see how this plays out with Davis and the lakers instead of endlessly speculating.
