Knicks Believed Trading For Anthony Davis 'Undercut' Long-Term Plan

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Nov 15, 2019 7:35 am

The New York Knicks turned down a potential trade for Anthony Davis last summer as it would go against the team's long-term rebuilding plan, reported Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

Windhorst added that Davis expressed interest in playing for the Knicks before eventually getting traded to the Lakers.

Steve Mills and Scott Perry were reportedly turned off by the Pelicans' asking price for Davis, even though they had the assets the Pelicans were looking for due to their Kristaps Porzingis trade.

Mills and Perry said that trading for Davis "would have undercut their long-range plan of building through the draft and developing picks into stars," according to Windhorst.

What assets? The only true asset was the 3rd pick. That wasn't close to what the Lakers were offering. The Celtics were the only other player in the game and they weren't planning on giving up one of their 2 aces without some sort of inclination from AD that he would be willing to play there long term.

It would undercut their long-term plan of sucking hard.

The Knick’s front office and ownership live in their own imaginary world. I feel for Knick’s fans who are among the best in the league.

Earlier this week Mills laid down the groundwork to fire Fizdale..... Now with this leak, it would appear that someone in the Knicks organization is laying down the groundwork to fire Mills.

Exactly.
While most non-Knicks fan see no value here, the trading away of Mitchell Robinson, Frank Ntilikina, the 3rd pick and other goodies is over the top.

Team would have 1 star and nothing else, no future assets, nothing. Davis would have bounced. Really good call by NY.

Their long term plan is non existent, another poor excuse for failure in free agency.

Probably their next 4 unprotected picks, including Barrett. Pick swaps in between. Knox and Mitch Robinson.

Can't blame the knicks entirely. Without assurance AD would resign, that could set your franchise back a full decade if he left.

They spent $77 million dollars in free agency on basically nothing of value. I'm sure they could have figured out AD + a clean cap sheet in New York City when a quarter of the league was out there in July.

For what? One oft-injured player on restrictive minutes and no 2nd star. Ask Kyrie how that is.

Pass.

They were only getting him if they won one of the top picks and Kyrie & KD were in play.
