Jimmy Butler Ghosted Rockets During 2019 Free Agency

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Dec 6, 2019 3:00 am

The Houston Rockets pursued Jimmy Butler during the 2019 free agency period after they offered multiple draft picks to the Minnesota Timberwolves for him before his trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.

"Look, the Houston Rockets wanted to pay Jimmy Butler the four-year max and he ghosted them," said Tim MacMahon on the Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective Podcast. "They thought they had them and he left them hanging."

"They had trades lined up, I don't know the teams (or) the destinations, but they had trades lined up for (Clint) Capela and (Eric) Gordon. They were ready to pay Jimmy Butler. They really liked their chances and then suddenly, Jimmy had other thoughts."

Butler ultimately orchestrated a sign-and-trade to the Miami Heat. Houston kept Capela and Gordon while trading Chris Paul for Russell Westbrook.

Jimmy Butler trusts Pat Riley more than Rockets especially after the treatment of Carmelo and the owner crying poor about going deep into the luxury tax.

Seems to me it's more like he wants to run his own team and not stand in a corner waiting for Harden to maybe pass him the ball.. That and it's south beach vs Houston..

you got it. plus the reputation as a no-nonsense team culture in miami. jimmy has always had a problem with teammates who aren't willing to put in the work

yeah, the melo thing makes no sense.

jimmy is defense, effort, and winning first. you won't get that with a harden-led team. if butler couldn't stand KAT and wiggin's inabilities to play defense, or give effort, he'd hate the **** out of harden.

he made the right decision in the end, so i don't blame butler, or anyone, for ghosting the rockets as long as they have harden

Always liked Jimmy. Has that Kobe, Jordan and Pierce mentality. An old school type of star player who isn’t ring chasing or trying to be your friend.

Well, he is actually winning...his team is 3rd in the East. And guess what...they have a better record than the 76ers.

Nobody wants to play with Harden the ballhog.

Still early in the season. A month ago the Hawks were in the playoffs. Now they're 14th, bottom feeders.

I think it's fair to say that the Heat have overachieved so far. Nobody expected them to start out the way they did. They won't finish the season as the 3rd best team in the East, because, well, they simply aren't. Father Time will slowly regress the Heat to their average/mean, which probably means around 6th in the East by April.

I agree that nobody wants to play with Harden.

Haha was just messing around with you.

I agree, I don't see the Heat that high at the end of the season. Playoffs team, but probably 6th or 7th spot.

But I don't blame Jimmy. He wanted to play in Miami instead of Houston. Good for him, even if he is not winning anything.

Nah, this is what they are. Not 3rd-best but will have homecourt going into the playoffs barring serious injury. They've already played one of the toughest schedules in the NBA--this team is for real.

I believe they'll prove it to Philly when the 76ers come to Miami too.

Miami is legit. They’re a contender no doubt.

Miami is a contender? And "no doubt" on top of that?

Who is Miami gonna beat in the East in a 7 game series - the Bucks? The Celtics? The Sixers?

And then, THEN, IF they make it past the East, who is Miami gonna beat - the Lakers or the Clippers?

C'mon man, don't use the word 'contender' as if it means nothing. 'Contender' means someone that has a pretty good chance to win it all. Miami doesn't.

This is obvious trolling, is it not? A tough out? yes... A contender? Nah. Not unless you meant contending for the 6th or 7th spot

Sorry, let me revise my statement. They're as much of a contender as the Sixers are no doubt.
