The Miami Heat have suspended Dion Waiters six games without pay for his failure to adhere to team policies, violation of team rules and continued insubordination.

His suspension will begin immediately, and he will be eligible to return following the conclusion of the game against the Utah Jazz on December 23.

But he sincerely apologized last time. How is this possible?

If they release him they have to pay him. That's the whole point of these suspensions.

At this point would it be worth paying him just to have him go?

He doesn’t get paid during a suspension, if they release him they’re on the hook for about $22 million for the rest of this season and next.

They’re either angling for Dion to except a dirt cheap buyout or hoping to include him in a trade by the deadline but It’s highly unlikely they’ll release him this season.

Poor guy.

Other people are the problem, and due to bad teaching/coaching, he is getting the blame.

The Heat will not release him until they have exhausted all option to recoup some of sort of asset for him. Also, they will wait until he is no longer eligible to play in the post season then cut him .

- I remember that, but as the saying goes.. leopard spots etc etc

solution: work with the players association to find a compromise to keep him away from the team and task his agent with finding a trade or come up with buy out numbers

He is more toxic than Melo was at this point. I can't see a team wanting him unless they want to completely blow it up. He laughed at Herro being better than him but guess what...

For sure. Oh don’t get me wrong, no team wants Waiters or his contract, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t be included in a deal as salary filler and then his new team buys him out. But Miami isn’t getting off that contract for free.

I’m even wondering if any NBA team would sign him for the minimum as a free agent at this point.

I’m surprised they haven’t attempted to void his contract.

You can blame the strength of the NBA union for the Heat to continue to hand light penalties to this guy. If this dumbass tries that in the NFL he would be out of a job and out of the league for the rest of his working life.
