Warriors Monitoring Karl-Anthony Towns

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Dec 30, 2019 7:36 pm

The Golden State Warriors are monitoring the situation of Karl-Anthony Towns with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Towns is under contract until 23-24, but multiple executives at the G League Showcase relayed that he is unhappy. Towns signed his extension with the Wolves during the 2018 offseason.

The Wolves have had interest in pairing Towns with D'Angelo Russell as the two are known to be close friends.

They’ll have a top 5 pick to send to Minnesota + a few others

Which 'few others'?

Top 15 player (top 4 center) entering his prime with 3 more years under contract? Would take Russell + 4/5 first round picks, as we've seen with George, Davis etc.

Curious who these "few others" you speak of are because a top 5 pick isn't going to be the primary piece going back for Towns? If they deal Towns they're in full blown rebuild mode, so they're not going to want Green, and none of the other rotation players on GS have much trade value, especially when you're talking about a top 5 star.

Klay, Dray, 1st? Minnesota has to do that right?

Wiggins-Klay-Covington-Dray-top 5 pick?

I think they become a better team. But no way GS would do that.

Doesn't seem like a deal that makes much sense for either team. You go for it if you're the Wolves but only because you immediately are trying to trade Klay and Draymond somewhere else not because you want to keep them.

Easily. Russell arguably has negative trade value with his max contract. He’s probably the one player the Warriors would most want to include as contract filler in such a trade.

they'd have to include more salary. and no, GSW obviously ain't doing it. they would hope that minny is willing to take Russell's contract

What??? If you're building a team from scratch, you don't think Towns is a top 5 overall pick to build around?

building a team from scratch is a different story, but he still blows on defense, so it's hard to put him as a top 10 franchise cornerstone, let alone top 5. that said, there's a huge gap between luka/giannis and everybody else when it comes to people you'd want to start a franchise with, so KAT may well sneak into the top 5

The article said they want to KEEP Russell to pair with Towns. Do you even read bro?

There's no need for snark or incivility here.
