Blake Griffin Considering Season-Ending Knee Surgery

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jan 6, 2020 4:18 pm

Blake Griffin will visit a specialist in Los Angeles this week because of his ailing left knee and could undergo season-ending surgery.

Griffin will have two more years and approximately $75 million left on his deal.

Blake Griffin is Mr. Injury Prone. I feel sorry for Detroit for taking on his contract. He's good, but they aren't really that much better when he's on the floor. With or without him, they're still a borderline #8 seed.

He needs to be shut down based on where Pistons are at, to prolong his NBA career beyond current contract and for Pistons to ideally maximize his trade value down the line.

Well he's got over 2 1/2 years to go and I'm sure he's not going to retire until he collects the money.

Shutting down now is likely a wise course. But my gut feeling is this is his last significant contract in any event. I’d think with as many injuries as he’s had he’s close to done whether he wants to be or not.

Injuries were the big risk Detroit took by trading for Griffin.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

The Pistons knew the risks based on his injury history and traded for him anyway and it looks like it has blown up in their face. They'd be wise to have him get the surgery and trade Drummond for whatever they can get and hope they get lucky in the draft.

I get that, but it took him almost a year and change to get it started, now that he's older, may take longer to recover. So, he'll get his $$$$, but may never play again.
