The Los Angeles Lakers tried to trade for Derrick Rose at the trade deadline, offering Alex Caruso and draft compensation.

The Detroit Pistons set a high price for Rose and decided to keep as he's signed for 20-21 at an affordable number.

The Lakers have sought a perimeter player who can create his own shot.

Wrong. He is quietly one of the best defensive players in the league. He is a good on-ball and off-ball defender of small and big guards, and rarely makes mistakes on defense. More importantly, he leads the defense vocally, calling out opponents' plays and informing teammates where to be on the floor. He also is a good shooter and distributor/passer, making pinpoint passes and knocking down open shots. He has great chemistry with LeBron as well, but he would be a good fit on any team.

The Pistons would have been lucky to get him alone for Rose, let alone draft compensation as well. The Pistons made a great trade with the Lakers last season, scamming them for Svi and a pick for Bullock. They could have pulled off a similar move this season by dealing Rose. When healthy, Rose is a very good player, but too many people overestimate his value, because they keep kidding themselves that he can stay healthy.
