Knicks Had Interest In Trading For Terry Rozier Before Deadline

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Mar 31, 2020 1:07 am

The New York Knicks had interest in trading for Terry Rozier before the 2020 trade deadline.

The Knicks had support internally for a deal that would have sent Julius Randle, Dennis Smith Jr. and a future first round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Rozier and Malik Monk.

It is not known how close a deal came to being executed.

The Knicks also had interest in trading for D'Angelo Russell.

Both Rozier and Russell were free agents last offseason.

No kidding.

That would have been such a Knicks trade, giving up future assets for a grossly overpaid PG who really isn’t good enough to start. It would have done nothing to improve their current situation and only hurt their long range rebuilding. Luckily they got rid of Steve Mills.

Rozier 18.0 points, .423 field, .407 threes, .874 frees, 4.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, looks like a starter to me, especially given that he's sharing the court with another starting PG (Graham 7.5 assists per game).
Rozier's assists would be higher if he was the lone PG.
Increase the assists to about 6 per game and he becomes an all-star candidate.

You’ve done a good job of highlighting some strengths but I still don’t view him as a starter on any good basketball team. He is only a starter in a bad team, like Charlotte, and a player like that doesn’t help the Knicks get to where they want to be.

He’s a solid shooter but a poor passer and he’s terrible finishing at the rim/paint (among the worst in the league which is why his ts% always looks bad) and he’s an overrated defender because he’s overmatched by so many bigger guards. Even while having his best season, his RPM is a negative on both sides of the ball and he currently ranks 72nd out of 93 NBA PG’s in rpm.

He has his positives but he has a long list of negatives that make him more of a 3rd guard than a valuable starter. He’s the type of starting PG that teams will always be looking to improve on just like Elfrid Payton.

Note: at the same time, I recognize that DSJ is much much worse and would not be an asset to the Bobcats, I was looking more at the 1st round pick.

This is why the Knicks are doomed. I want Rozier to succeed as much as anyone, but his worth is not anywhere near worth a FRP.

The Bobcats? Man gtfoh, you also slept on the 15 or so games where Monk was looking the part of a lottery pick before he got suspended.

Was the sweetener of the FRP more to get Rozier or the indefinitely suspended Monk?
