NBA Considering Disney World For Neutral Site

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Apr 30, 2020 2:15 am

The NBA is considering Disney World Resort as a potential playing site for when the 19-20 season resumes.

The NBA has considered multiple locations to keep their players and staff in isolation to finish out the season.

It is believed that Disney has already offered its property to the NBA for this use.

Keith Smith of Yahoo! Sports wrote a piece two weeks ago about the viability of Disney World for the NBA due to their abundance of hotels, basketball facilities, broadcast capabilities and ESPN as a television partner to the NBA.

IMO would be better than Vegas. For every disciplined player be it LBJ or whomever there are Waiters and JR types also. Vegas might be too alluring, plus these guys gotta get back into game shape.

The fact the NBA is considering Florida as a potential spot gives me little to no faith this season will continue. While Disney World does have its own little bubble in Orlando, that state is going to be among the worst in rebounding the virus over the next several months.

You realize if they play in Vegas nothing will be open.. I.e. no bars no gambling etc it will just be hotels and good gyms and the game...

Well, this week. The rest of this season would take several months.

Disney World is an excellent choice! However, there are two arguably better options: Toronto and Kansas City.

Say, we can play all Western Conference games in Kansas City, Eastern Conference games in Toronto and the World Championship in Disney World.

I think Disney/Orlando is an excellent choice, especially for a split location for Eastern Conference playoff teams. Disney has the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex and Orlando has the largest convention center in the United States. Hotels clearly won’t be an issue. Orlando has the most hotel rooms on planet earth. Amway Center, UCF Arena, and even the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee could all be useful venues for the NBA to finish the season.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

This defeats the purpose of being in a bubble and limiting travel.

Two words: social distancing

Having all 16 teams of 240 players plus coaches and support staff in one single venue is a recipe for disaster.

Keeping them in seperate venue lowers the risk of cross-contamination amongst themselves.

I am sure Western conference teams would much rather fly to Kansas City than Orlando. It is a much shorter trip. And then only the Western Conference Champion need to fly in to Orlando.
