Not much progress has been made in the discussion of a contract extension between the Indiana Pacers and Victor Oladipo, league sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

The two sides discussed a four-year, $80 million extension at one point, though there has been little development since.

Several opposition teams are keeping their eye on the situation.

The Pacers committed $58 million in 2021-22 salary to Myles Turner, Domantas Sabonis and Malcolm Brogdon.

SNY added that several teams inquired about potential deals for Turner following last season's draft, but came away with the impression that it would take a big offer to pry Turner away from the Pacers.

its impossible to come to a fair deal for both sides, roll the dice that he wants to stay in indiana as a UFA, or trade him ASAP. That is my favorite player in the NBA, but I dont even know what theyre supposed to do here. 2 years ago vic is worth way more than what theyre offering, but this vic we saw isnt even worth that. Why even negotiate? like for both sides it makes no sense.

Had Oladipo never had his knee injury - he would be a shoe in for a MAX contract.

However, the reason for the stale mate on negotiation is 3 fold :

1) Salary cap will be significantly lower next season
2) Oladipo still recovering from surgery ( not yet at full strength & under performing )
3) Uncertainty of this season finishing due to COVID

In all likely hood, even if the season does resume the Pacers would be financially foolish to extend and significant offer to VO. He is a shell of the himself from prior to the injury :

2018 : 23.1ppg / 5.2rpg / 4.3apg / 2.4spg ( 47.7% fg, 37.1% 3pt )
2020 : 13.8ppg / 3.2rpg / 3apg / .8spg ( 39.1%fg, 30.4% 3pt )

Best would be to trade VO to recoup some backcourt asset(s) in return, for example :

* Pacers VO to Denver for Garry Harris
* Pacers VO to Mavs for Hardaway
* Pacers VO to Magic for Fournier
* Pacers VO to Knicks for Ellington / Payton/ Dennis Smith
* Pacers VO to Hornets for Rozier

He seems to be a really good player, but He just doesn't seem to be a maximum contract player to me. I personally think a four year 80 million is enough

Those are all awful offers. Better to let him walk at that point.

That is a slap in the face it is less than the 4 year $84M extension he got with the Thunder before he got traded to the Pacers and won nba most improved player, made the allstar and all-nba teams. I think his max extension if it is just 4 years added to his current deal with raises is likely somewhere close to the money Jaylen Brown recently got to extend with the Celtics off his rookie deal. Oladipo has good work ethic, wants to be in Indiana and is definitely a $100m+ contract player when he is healthy. If I am Pacers l lock him down to another 4 year deal (no opt out) added to his current expiring 2020-21 deal.

He would be nicely paired with a tall PG like Lonzo Ball and they have the assets from the AD trade. Wait, they still have Jrue!

You might be right, but you said the key word... When he is healthy, I would want to to know that he has recovered first.... But I was thinking 5 years and 100 million even though from a owner perspective,. Three years might be safer

The Pacers will ride it out and let him leave before they ship him away for a role player.

I mean it's cool him and Turner will just leave when the contracts are up without costing any team anything besides money while the Pacers tank. At the end of the day better to wait when someone tries to ask the world for a not top 5 player
