NBA, NBPA Agree To Prorate Bonus Criteria Based On March 11th As End Date Of Season

The NBA and NBPA agreed to prorate performance bonuses and incentives using March 11th as the end date of the regular season, which eliminates the eight additional seeding games in Orlando as part of the formula.

For Joel Embiid, it means he meets the minutes-played criteria needed to fully guarantee the final three seasons and nearly $95 million on his $148 million max contract. Embiid signed a five-year, $148 million extension in 2017 that included provisions to protect the Philadelphia 76ers against career-ending injuries involving his back or feet.

Embiid needed 1,650 minutes this season to fully guarantee the contract, but prorated over the Sixers' 65 games that lowered the requirement to below the 1,329 minutes he had played this season.
