Vince Carter announced his retirement, saying he is "officially done playing basketball professionally."

Carter announced before the start of the 19-20 season that this would be his final season.

Carter had not addressed his playing status since the NBA season was suspended March 11 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"If there was any disappointment because of the season -- any of that -- it was kind of easier to put it aside and handle it that way," Carter said. "It's like, OK, it's something bigger than my career. ... It's unfortunate, but with the coronavirus taking people's lives rapidly, that's the big picture in my mind.

"So I was able to put the weird ending -- the abrupt stoppage of play, to an ending -- aside for the bigger picture."

Class act. I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of VC on an NBA court. If not, best of luck to him in his retirement.

I thought he was going to play until he was carried out feet first.
