Mitchell Robinson Likely To Set Single-Season Field Goal Percentage Record

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jul 18, 2020 4:30 pm

Mitchell Robinson will set a single-season field goal percentage record should no player in Orlando surpass him, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

Robinson finished the season shooting 74.2% from the field, beating Wilt Chamberlain's record of 72.7%.

The league announced that while voting for individual awards will take place before the Orlando restart, statistical awards will continue to be up for grabs.

Rudy Gobert would need to make at least 89 straight field goals to surpass Robinson.

Okay, why do bad teams play young players when they have oloder guys who could win a couple more games? to give younglings time to develop their game. Young players make mistakes, they do things they arent ready to do to get in game reps of doing that thing and seeing on film how they can improve.

Robinson isnt even scoring 10 per game despite him barely missing any shots. That means he is firmly playing within his comfort zone, thats limiting his ability to expand by not getting comfortable doing other things. He should try to step out and shoot a couple more jumpers, make a few post moves, fail, and learn.

Rondo Couldnt shoot a lick, but he kept trying and hes somewhat respectable now.
Lebron was maligned for his post game, but he kept trying a bit until he got good at it.

What im saying is, you cant just work on your game in practice, he needs to be more creative in the games. If he was on a condender, thats different. Teams like that are about having defined roles that lead to team goal. Michell Robinson's development is the teams goal and deciding that a 21 year old should only be a rim runner who does nothing else without trying to see if he can be more is probably a bit limiting to not only his, but the knicks future.

Impressive, but definitely helps that he is shooting such a low volume. Gobert for example played very bad post All-Star game, and shot .768 from the field in 10 games. He lowered his FGA from 8.7 to 5.6. I'm quite sure that Gobert shouldn't sustain 77% at around 9 FGAs. Check out the percentage of total shots that are 0-3ft range: Gobert: .836 vs Robinson: .924. That's an insane number, not even DeAndre Jordan ever reached .924.

Great post. Agree 100%. One example as a fan of the Raptors: in Siakam's 2nd season, I was yelling at the TV anytime he jacked up 3s. What was this kid doing? His rookie year he only attempted 7 three pointers and made one. His sophomore season he started attempting a much higher volume but only made 22%. At the time, I would've said, clearly the 3 just isn't part of this kid's skillset, why is he ruining the flow of the offense with these low percentage shots. But he kept developing his game and now it's a viable part of his game as a volume scorer.
