Heat Unlikely To Extend Bam Adebayo To Preserve 2021 Cap Space

Bam Adebayo is eligible for a contract extension this offseason as part of the 2017 draft class, but that is highly unlikely to happen due to the plans of the Miami Heat to preserve cap space for 2021. The Heat have interest in pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo and Victor Oladipo
"He's not going to get a max contract in the offseason," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "Even though I think he should, because the Heat are going to save money for the 2021 summer. That's a storyline that I can almost guarantee for you: Bam Adebayo will not sign a contract extension this offseason.
"It will be, 'Bam, we'll take care of you later.'"
Adebayo's cap hold in 2021 will almost certainly be less than what he would receive as part of an extension.

how is that not smart?. It wouldn't be smart if you a bucks fan. Bam adebayo will be restricted after next season and miami can match any offer. $120m cap can net bam, giannis and dipo while retaining herro and robison as well ands kz okpala and 1st round this year

Teams can do a wink wink side deals for restricted free agents to lure them away.

ok...how do wink wink side deals work when the original team matches?

Not a Bucks fan at all, however it doesn't seem likely to me Heat "nets giannis and dipo" and they risk alienating Bam, but what do I know.

well they could just tell bam what they are up to. i mean he probally wants that to happen right? he knows he is getting paid anyway, either Miami or another team but Bam is getting paid.

Imo players usually like to be paid sooner rather than later, but if he's onboard with that then fair enough.

its not like he gets more money when he signs an extension, he still needs to wait for the extension to kick in. Also Miami can just wait and match any offer he gets. Why should they be in a hurry when there are alot of good FA coming and they can match bam anytime they want?

Where does all this "dipo to miami" talk originate from?!

Ofc, from Miami's point of view absolutely no reason to hurry, however not quite the same from his point of view - as I've said, if he's 100% cool with that then fine, but he might not be.

The problem for Miami comes if someone offers Bam a big deal immediately that he accepts. At that point Miami will have only 2 days to match. If they don't have the deals with Dipo or Giannis done before then they either have to let him walk or one of them.

He's a max player regardless. Bam will sign the max in 2021 with Miami because they can and will match any offer. The bigger question is Oladipo. Is he going to accept $15 million?
Heat Cap Situation in 2021Giannis - 37.5
Butler - 36
Herro - 4
Silva - 1.8
Okpala - 1.8
----------------------------------------------------
Bam - 15.4 (cap hold)
Robinson - 2.1 (cap hold)
Nunn - 2.1 (cap hold)
----------------------------------------------------
Ryan Anderson - 5.2 (waived/stretched)
----------------------------------------------------
2020 FRP - 2.5
2 min roster spots - 2
----------------------------------------------------
Remaining cap space - 14.5 million roughly
So Oladipo is accepting 14.5 million? Doubt that.
Oladipo
Herro
Butler
Giannis
Bam
Nunn
Robinson

ur math a bit off. Giannis max is $34.5 or maybe less if cap goes down. He still don't have 10 year service to get the cheddar unless s&t. Also no way heat hold on to nunn having herro and getting dipo. My guess is geat try to trade for dipo this offseason so we can retain his bird rights, easier to pay him max or close to max maybe $31m per. Heat should buy 1st round and package it with nunn ,our own 2020 1st round and exp contract of Solomon hill or s&t Derrick jones jr for dipo

It originates from bored NBA reporters talking with sources about who might be interested in who. Basically the high school lunch table gossip about who made out with who at Melody Bostic's party.

Bam and Giannis don't fit. Giannis needs 4 floor spacers on the court at all times to unlock his full potential. Bam needs floor spacers too. The Heat would sell Giannis on the idea of a Bam/Giannis front court and then they would trade Bam for Brook Lopez, a year after the experiment fails.

Well a max deal is a % of the cap so it's all relative. If Giannis is making 34.5 then the cap will go down as well obviously. Yeah trading for Dipo is an option too, but with a cap hold @ 31 million the numbers don't work. They wouldn't have the space for a max player.
Do you think Iguodala + Nunn + 2020 FRP gets Oladipo in a trade? Doesn't seem realistic. Even if a trade went down your left not nearly enough cap space to sign Giannis. Crunch the numbers and you'll quickly realize that Giannis & Dipo is completely unrealistic with Butler and Bam's cap hold. Plus you want to keep Herro and Robinson. Yeah it's not happening. Giannis alone sure that's possible but not both.

The Raptors could afford both Giannis & Dipo though. The team would be gutted, but they could get it done. Miami not so much.
Oladipo
TD II
OG
Siakam
Giannis
Thomas
Hernandez

They can force heat way over the luxury tax with a 2 year guarantee contract. It could force the heat to renounce multiple players
